Default 1988 Donruss Jefferies (R) Variation ???

I was looking at my Lot of 200's of 1988 Donruss Gregg Jefferies cards and I found 1 card different from all the rest. See scans ( front has blue design in upper left corner and rest had the black in the corner, also the backs are different( blue corner starts the last line in Career Highlights with "eventually might be 3b". The common starts with " best position eventually might be 3b"

Is this a variation from the 1988 set ? Is it well known to everyone expect me ? Thanks for the help on this one.

I thought I would be able to give you the reason, but my initial thought was wrong. Interestingly enough, there is a 3rd variation to this card.

I found one variation on COMC and bought it and recommended they add the variation to their database.

The 3rd variation is found in the 1988 Donruss New York Mets Team Collection books, as it states "1988 Leaf" under Serra, CA instead of "1987 Leaf" like both the ones you've shown. Those will all be hand cut, though, coming out of a book.

Quick search on Ebay for 1988 Donruss singles and it seems the change of the placement of the outside frame design on the same cards, is pretty common.

I seen the one on COMC also, did you buy it and relist it? As it is still there, never looked at the price before but it is by far the most expensive now.

Yep; was $1.50, priced it at $7.50. May just have it sent to me as I'm starting a little collection of flaws/variations.

Cool, do you have other error variation listed on COMC? Then I can search your listings.

COMC does their variations with a .1 or .2 after the card number; that's how you can tell it has a variation. I haven't uploaded an image of the ones in the Team Collection booklet. You can buy the Mets one for about $5 including shipping on eBay. I bought all 5 books (A's, Mets, Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs) for $12 including shipping.

With Donruss that is usually INC or INC. on the back. I don't think that is the case with this card because I looked at a bunch of Maddux cards and they were all the same.

After a quick eBay search there are several of each variation listed unlike COMC with just the single variation.

I believe the factory set swapped the colors on the borders around, kind of like the upside down back from the year before.

Correct. 1991 Donruss factory sets also have differing border colors from the pack issued cards.
