Default EBay rant part nine million

Yesterday I picked up a pretty rare Gehrig F card on eBay for $1250. One I'd been waiting to see for a while. Used my eBay Bucks and got another 8% bonus. Nice card PSA 4. Clean and crisp. Later in the day some guy reposts the same SGC A card designated Altered for $300 more than my lovely 4. And it's from a more common series on the same card. Sometimes you just want to grab someone and shake them and scream "what are you doing dude!"

He's selling the card for the price he wants. That's what he's doing.

With a rare card, past sales are irrelevant. Sorry to all of you who think they matter.

If the card is really rare, the seller holds the power (unless he is forced to sell). The buyer can't find another card. They can't even get a substitute (like dropping from looking for a PSA 10 to a PSA 9). If you've got the only game in town, what difference does the last sale make? They have to pay what you want, or they can't get the card.

Which is why all these schmucks paying huge bucks for Topps cards is insane in my book. Every single day, you can get any Topps card (including the "rare" high numbers) you want if you have the money. There may be a couple exceptions. The 1952 Grey backs are pretty rare - those aren't sold every day. But there are other cards I've been looking for a couple decades. When you see those, what are they worth?

Cheers,
Patrick

You are sort of right. He can list it for anything the hell he pleases. But he can only sell it if someone wants to pay what he is asking. If he wants to sell it and not just relist for years he should look at recent sales. He is not going to sell a card marked Altered A with a big stain on it for a couple of hundred dollars more than a nice 4 just sold on eBay. This is not rocket science.

And this is not a very rare card as I would define rare. I'd say 7-10 a year are sold each year at AHs or EBay.

Depends....does the "A" card look like a 7 or 8?? A buyer with bad intentions could snatch it up, and sell it for 4 to 5 times what he is asking in a raw state. That is what makes Battlefield so popular (or infamous).....

The A card looks like shite. Now can someone doctor it up and cross it over? I have no idea. Not my bag baby, as Austin Powers would say.
