Cheers, guys (and gals)...i just landed in London for a mini-vaca, will also be in Paris for a few days as well...

2 questions:

1. Are there any collectors here (in London or Paris) that would like to meet-up for a drink?

2. Are there any vintage memorabilia/card shops over here?

Thanks in advance!

Michael Sarno

Try Murray Cards in London(Martin and Ian Murray). It is one of the biggest card shops in the world and has alot of U. S material.

Mike,

We really should be setting our business travel plans together. I’m in the UK late next week and there 2 more time’s before the years end, also will be in France and Italy over the next few months perhaps we can find some Italian baseball cards…LOL.

I agree try Murray’s you should be able to get some of the great non-sports cards we talked about for cheap compared to our T206 addictions.

Have a great trip.

John

I don't know about baseball cards, but the food is better in Paris than in London by a long shot!

Have a safe trip.

If you find any cards over there across The Pond, while you are perusing their stocks, could you give me a holler if you see any Australian cards or Aussie-related baseball memorabilia?!!
would love to learn of a source!

Much thanks!

The food is better if you can get past the mimes and Jerry Lewis clips…

Not to say that I don’t enjoy a couple of good pasty's, a nice pile of fish & chips as well as the occasional spotted dick!

One time when in London I went to Murray's. London is very big. Great transportation systems. Still, it took a while to get there. I was very disappointed. I did buy a cigarette card book. I'd not bother to go back. I've had more success buying cigarette cards at flea markets, fairs, and antique malls.

I went to 221B Baker Street, too. Took a while to get there, to. And there's nothing there. Exterior wall to a bank is my recollection. No Sherlock Holmes stuff at all.

Still, it may be a trip you just have to make. Once.

Frank.

...is to eat Indian and Chinese (in Chinatown), which are both substantially better than the American-import variation.

I bought some nice 1930's cricketeers (no, not crickets) at an antique fair a few years back (here in the US). I've always wondered why they weren't worth more...

I live about an hour and a half away (right next to Stonehenge), so I get to London pretty often. I always find myself on Charing Cross Road, just up from Trafalgar Square. There is a great little side street with book sellers and a cigarette card shop (the name escapes me, but you'll find it). There's never been any baseball stuff in the card shop, but it's fun to poke around in anyway. All of the cig card dealers know baseball is big coin, so don't expect to find a hidden T206 stash anywhere. Just enjoy yourself and don't forget to order a chicken jalfrezi at a decent Indian restaraunt!

Cheers,
Geno

Geno --I think it is Cecil Court which runs East just before Trafalgar Square. It is my favorite spot in London with the old bookstores and there is a shop there with lots of old tobacco cards --I picked up a nice collection of tennis cards the last time I was there.

1. flea markets are better than card shops over here
2. chinese is better here than in the states
3. indian is better than the chinese
4. paris has better food than london
5. stay away from the french mimes
6. just relax and enjoy myself

thanks guys!

If you are out in the countryside, ask the folks when market day is... most towns have market day one day a week. You'll maybe find some cards there, it is a big farmers market flea market yard sale all in one. I've bought cards several times at these. I've bought old coins, books, and old vellum deeds and indentures, too.

County seats usually have a fair one weekend a year. They are good, too. But prices may be higher.

I was always a big fan of their reggae stuff on Black Market Clash. Joe Strummer's later work (Joe Strummer and Mescaleros) is outstanding.

Several years ago, I was in London, but I wasn't savvy enough to eat Chinese or Indian. I subsisted for several days on fish and chips as well as KitKat bars.

Vietnamese in Soho (London Soho, not NYC) is also pretty incredible.
English food in general is light years better than it was 30 years ago.

well, i am getting ready to head back to the "states" tomorrow (thurs). i had an awesome visit, the weather was abnormally warm (80-ish)...

so, no cards to report, except for several dog & flag tobacco cards at portobello road. i checked out murrary's website, no sign of baseball cards.

oh well, while i was away i did manage to pull in a few T206's from REA anyway.

speak to you all when i get back on that side of the pond.

The Clash is my all-time favorite band. My two year old boys ask me every night to put on the Clash. Their favorite song, incredibly, is "This is England" off of Cut the Crap the first Clash (and only) Clash album after Mick Jones's departure.

The Clash were my favorite band 20 years ago, today and probably still will be 20 years from now. Pressure Drop (Blackmarket Clash) is the chosen living room dance song for the kids (7 and 4) in our house. To keep on topic, last time I was in London (many years ago), I made my wife go to with me to eat at Lee Ho Fooks.

Fellow Clash fans should check out the last Mescaleros album for "Coma Girl" - great tune. And let's get some Capitol Theatre Clash concertclips from YouTube, someone.. anyone?
