Default Lake Oscawana Ty Cobb Bat offered by MEARS Auctions

With much anticipation, MEARS Online auctions, www.mearsonlineauctions.com , is proud to present the Lake Oscawana Ty Cobb autographed game used bat. While researching the history of the bat, quite an interesting story emerged. The following article, http://www.mearsonline.com/news/newsDetail.asp?id=778 , illustrates autographs, trains, and even a pet bear!

Enjoy,

Troy R. Kinunen/MEARS

I just read through that item description, and I don't understand this bit:

"Although unable to confirm this was the only autographed game used Ty Cobb authenticated by JSA, Jimmy Spence did comment that a Cobb signature on a bat was quite rare."

How can you not know or confirm that this is the only example authenticated? Does JSA not keep records of whether or not something was "game-used?" Even if they don't, wouldn't someone remember seeing such a significant item before? What am I missing?

Default auction

Is auction up or for preview? If so, I can not get in, still listing Nov. auction...

While I know that Spence does keep photos of exemplars, he probably doesn't keep his info sorted by what medium the signature was on when he does his authentications. If he spent the time going thru all his exemplars, he may have been able to tell a Ty Cobb signature was on a bat, but may not have been able to tell it was on a "gamer". In this case, I think Spence didn't want to be quoted as confirming MEARS statement that this is the first Cobb signed gamer to surface.
