Everything you just wrote is the exact reason I love the cards. They are weird, quirky, unique, rare, and rudimentary... but at the same time awesome because they are exactly that way.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I have no idea what makes them "hideous and unsightly" to you as they are simply small real photos of baseball players, many of which feature unique images not found anywhere else.

All that being said one of the most popular sets of cards of all time (1912 Boston Garter's) are in my opinion so weird they border on hideous, even though the lithography was well done. Who honestly wants a card of Napoleon Lajoie slowly hiking up his sexy Garters? Then you have both Christy Mathewson and Hal Chase posed where they literally look like they are trying to seduce you.

The 1913 Boston Garter's, however, are amazing cards!

No offense taken SetBuilder! From a future post, I see that you find the W516-1 Ruth attractive...can we just agree to disagree on our style and taste of cards? I love that this thread has daylighted cards that I never knew existed. Thanks for sharing folks.

Default Dating the Frederick Foto set

The Frederick Foto sets clearly seem to have been issued over a several year period.

Although I see it frequently listed as a 1921 set, Oscar Stanage didn't play for Sacramento until 1922. He played for Los Angeles in 1921.

Anyone else care to add to the date debate?

Thanks,

Patrick

Any players prove it's for sure as early as 1921? They obviously used older photos like the Ruth.

Interesting. Wondering if the cards with the label looking "Frederick Foto" on the front are from a different year than those with the hand-written looking "Frederick Foto" words? Do you have an image of the Stanage card?
