Default RIP Bill White the collector not the player

Hi Gang:

Sad to say I just discovered today that a good old friend and fellow collector Bill White passed away about three weeks ago.

https://www.longwoodfuneralhome.com/.../William-White

Those of us in the Philly area have known Bill for decades. He was really into Phillies collectibles especially autographs. He related many stories to me about his collecting years. One was going to the movies in 1948 where they gave out Lummis Peanut Butter cards as an incentive to buy movie tickets!!

His vast collection was sold over three or four different auctions in the last year or two by Huggins and Scott.

He and his wife Marlene had no children and Bill had set up a charitable trust that the proceed of the sales of his collection went to.

Nice guy!!

Sorry to hear this. I never met him but I bought many Mets minor league photos and postcards from him over the year by mail. RIP

Default Bill White

I met Bill at the Willow Grove Show in 1981. I purchased a 1949 BOWMAN Duke Snider card from him. We had some interesting conversations
sharing stories when we were kids collecting BOWMAN's and TOPPS cards (1948 - 1955).

Summer of 1982, Bill and his wife Marlene invited us to stay at their home in Ocean City (NJ) during the Seashore BB card show every summer.
This was a start of a long and great friendship.

GOD Bless Bill's soul.

I remember his mimeographed sheets he would send out and ordering many different items from him. He sold me some 1948 Bowmans he cut from a sheet in the early 70's.

Default Bill White: RIP

Bill was great to deal with and I bought many photos and postcards from him. I corresponded with him for a few years and his knowledge of the hobby and collectors was invaluable. He was still hunting for items into his eighties to add to his collection. He will truly be missed.
