I never understand how these clowns think that they can sell a "Wagner" for $500,000 without any documentation. Do they think that everyone is as stupid as them?

When I said "they" I was including Cobb + Edwards.

Wish I could have been there when the "local experts" were looking at it. Would love to see their method of authentication.

This card is as fake as Dolly Parton's tits. I hope someone reaches out to this buyer before he goes on a crazy spending spree.

Not mad about the news coverage though, any exposure to vintage cards is good exposure.

Well Jason mars has now deleted his facebook account. On this someone from blowout called sgc to inquire about the card. Their response... "Yeah we got it. It was a terrible fake" looms like his scam didn't work and he is now trying to dissapear.

I'm sure he'll resurface with a new ebay account and some more crappy reprints.

Andy, in all fairness, consider who he's talking to. Some random news guy. The average tv viewer has maybe heard of the T206 Honus Wagner, the Gretzky Wagner. And that's probably about it. To a non hobbyist, a 40 year old card seems old.

I have a binder full of shiny modern cards. I get excited by 40 year old cards. My 1973 Topps Roberto Clemente is one of my favorite cards. I'm collecting the 1975 Topps set in high grade.

And I have pre-war cards.

"Yeah, we've got a word for "that old man wanted to give away a $400,000 baseball card for $200" kinda odd in the English language. It's called suspicious."

Those are the kinds of things you really need to get a feel for. Hold them in your hands. Get a sense for now they feel to better judge if real or not. Tough to tell from a photo.

Know what I mean?

And .... if you go to their web site and search their pop report for Wagner you now get the following message:

"Trading card removed from the database after review. The latest analysis shows that the cyan ink used to print the card dates from the 30s".

Just an update, speaking to the reporter, mars gave the reporter permission to contact sgc to find out what happened, then he quickly took that permission away and refuses to allow sgc to speak to the reporter covering the story. He is still selling it on craigslist and claiming it to be 100% real. Isn't that fraud?

Default i just reported the craigslist listing

to the Reno Nevada police department. Maybe others should do this as well. I let them know this was not just an ordinary fake baseball card but that it's value if real was hundreds of thousands of dollars. I gave them the info of SGC where the card was submitted so they could give them a call.

Are you referring to the messages on Facebook (in response to him bragging about doing the story in 3 hours)? If so that was me that notified him.

I also emailed all the people in in the "contact us" list from the news station. Which I suggest everyone do. I know this is just another thing that is obvious to us collectors, but this story showed a total disregard to investigative reporting.
