Default Help Please with 3 unidentified 1920's? cards

A long-time collector friend just showed me these blue-tinted Stanley Harris and Joe Judge cards he recently acquired and asked me if I could identify them. I can't, but it so happens that I have this similar blue-tinted WaJo card that I acquired back in 1998. I have no idea what they or even if they are legitimate. Each of these cards is approx. 1.375" x 2.375", and the paper they are printed on is similar to the E121/120 and W502 cards I compared them to. Sorry about the pic of the backs being larger - I don't know how this happened.

In addition, I have long had this rose-tinted panel of WaJo & Al Simmons that appears to me to perhaps be half of a 4-on-1 card of some sort. The WaJo image of this piece is identical in image and size to the blue-tint WaJo, however, the paper stock of this piece is thicker.

Can anyone please help with the identification of these?

Thanks in advance
Val

Think they all are pieces from 4-in-1 exhibits: http://www.oldjudge.com/archive/2012...xhibits/231/#a

Glenv - Many thanks for providing this info. This info does seem to solve my mystery, except for the blue tint "cards" being on thinner paper stock than the rose tint "panel" of two.

Can anyone add any more info?

If you look at this page from Adam W Link, it looks like the Ty Cobb strip card, that he identifies as a strip card made from the same art as the 4-1 Exhibits.

The bottom cut postcard is definitely from a 4-1 Exhibits postcard. You can see some of these here: Link that sold in a Legendary auction a while back. (One thing to note is that the partial set from the Legendary are postcard back, while the partial postcard that Val has looks like it's blank back. Therefore, it's possible that the blue tinted cards were cut from a blank back also.)

Gary,
Many thanks for pointing me to Adam's site and for pointing out Adam's Ty Cobb card that he identifies as a strip card made from the same art as the 4-on-1 Exhibits. My friend and I will be thrilled if our blue-tinted cards are indeed strip cards, as opposed to pieces cut from a 4-on-1. But, what still concerns/puzzles us is that these blue-tinted cards are on thinner paper stock than the rose-tinted Johnson/Simmons piece and the other Exhibit cards that I have.

Missed this thread and Val's email to me on it.

The blue tinted cards appear to be strips. The athlete cards found in the 4 on 1 exhibit baseball/boxing/entertainment series can be found on strips. As tough as the exhibits are to find, the strips are way harder. I know of fewer than ten legitimate examples. What are sometimes ID'd as strips are cuts from 4 on 1 exhibits. Here is a legitimate Cobb:

Here is an uncut strip of the boxers:

Unless you have an uncut piece, the only way to tell for sure is to compare stock. That said, anyone who knows exhibit cards will be able to tell the difference in about ten seconds. The strip cards are on a thinner, whiter stock that has a very different feel. The strips also will be very close to the same height because they were issued in ten card horizontal strips. The three shown here are new confirmations. I previously documented all ten boxers and the Cobb and Simmons baseball players. I expect that every baseball player known in the exhibit cards will surface as a strip card some day.

BTW [shameless plug] if anyone wants to own one of the boxers, I consigned some to Heritage that may be in the fall catalog.

Adam,
Many thanks for the info you sent me via email re the 3 blue-tinted examples my friend and I own between us and for the additional info and pics in your post above. As I mentioned in my email response to you before I saw your post here, I picked up the blue-tinted WaJo at a local DC area card card show about 15 - 20 years ago for not much $$, thinking that it was likely cut from a period ad poster or a from a modern repro piece. I'm thrilled to learn that it is an actual strip card!

Gary I just noticed your comment re the blank backs. The exhibits are known in blank back format. Again it is the card stock that is the way to tell the difference.
