Default Help removing tape from back of a check

Any ideas on how I can remove tape from a check without tearing check--I can use a straight edge to remove from edges---so any help would be appreciated or I may just be stuck with the tape of back---thanks, Don

Looks like that might have been removed from a frame. Is that framer's tape?

If it is archival/linen tape the adhesive should be water soluble.

Do not take this as gospel, but sometimes heating masking tape with a hairdryer will help 'loosen' it.

I assumed the front side had the key signature. That’s what I get for assuming. Nice Ruth autograph!

I saw that sig quickly, but I would love to see the front if the back was taped.

Anything interesting up there?

Also, seems that the hairdryer was fairly successful in improvement.

I should have helped with better instructions on my reply. If you run across anything like this again I can see the obvious reason liquid and ink can be scary.

To check for framers tape or water soluble tape, use a damp qtip on a rough corner to check for lift. If it lifts…stop.

I then to avoid bleed which would be a total disaster in this case or even when scared would lay it across a plain white t or pillowcase and use a handheld clothing steamer to remove the tape. Do not dip in water of course. I have done this successfully with tape but it takes time and of course will not change any discoloration, just takes the actual extra tape off.
