Rookie right-hander Stephen Strasburg has a significant tear on the ulnar collateral ligament that probably will require reconstructive Tommy John elbow surgery, the Washington Nationals announced Friday.

Wow, that's a shame for baseball. I guess we will see him in 2012.

We have two Strassburg threads going at the same time. As I said on the other one, this is the reason it's crazy to spend thousands of dollars on his rookie card. I hope he recovers but he could end up like Wood and Prior. What a shame.

As crazy as it seems to us that someone would pay that much, there are probably just as many people that collect modern cards saying "Look at all those crazy guys on Net54 paying $10k for cards of dead guys".

Default holy grail

Just heard strasbourg is having tommy john surgery so his career and his card value may be in doubt- I would not invest in any modern active player because of the uncertainty. I assume almost all are overhyped and way overvalued. Give me a Ty Cobb anytime.

It was announced on ESPN that Stephen Strasburg needs Tommy John surgery, with a torn Ligament in his arm. Where do you think the price of his cards will go now?

Heck they will probably go up as soon as enough people convince themselves that he will come back throwing 110 mph fastballs after the surgery.
