I figured this might go for $50 or so as a novelty item

I guess people don't believe the seller that its a repro of some sort. I have no idea as this isn't my area of collecting.

thoughts.

Actually, I have no idea why someone bid that amount on the CDV. The seller gave no indication is was original. An Old Judge overprint on a CDV of this woman is nonsensical. It's about as likely as a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle accidental overprint on a Schwinn bicycle.

I know of one 52 Topps Mantle that was entombed in a paperweight. I think one of my buddies in OBC owns what's left of it.

Maybe we're thinking of the same thing, but I saw a real 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle permanently affixed to the bottom of an ashtray. To view Mickey's portrait, you had to look through the glass.

I also know of a case of a professionally graded card collection that was in a house fire, and the cards and plastic were sealed together. The dealer offered the cards for sale as one mass.

I'm glad i'm not the only one who thought the bidding odd.
