Default HOFers per set--Team building exercise!

Forgive me for being lazy and not counting these myself but this could also be fun *and* informative...and serve as a team building exercise

How about a list of the mainstream T and E sets (or others) ...and count of how many Hall Of Famers are in each set ? (count multiple poses individually but not backs)

I can start with a couple sets some of which are certainly debatable...(It's not generally too tough to find a debate on this board so let's do it!)

E210 York Caramel Type 1= 31/60 or ~52%
T206 White Borders = 76/524 or ~14%
E95 Philadelphia Caramel =10/25 or ~40%
T205 Gold Borders=
T204 Ramly=
1933 DeLong=
1933 Goudey=
1934 Goudey=
E121 American Caramel=
1934-36 Diamond Stars=
E93 Standard Caramel=

The list could get long and these sets are obviously just a small portion of our beloved collectable sets.
What do you all think?

E92 Dockmans = 11/40 = 27.5%
E97 Briggs = 3/30 (if you count Young as Cy and not Irv) = 10%

Cheers,

16 of the 30 cards, 53 percent, in the 1933 Butter Cream set are Hall of Famers.

Default M101-2

If I counted correctly ...

M101-2 = 39/100 = 39%

I counted the 6 team issues as HOFers since they have HOFers on the team. Its amazing how top-loaded the issue is, as most of the HOFers appear in earlier issues of the print run.

Default T216's

Another gap to fill.

T216 (Kotton, MINO, Virginia Extra).

Complete 36/104 = 34.6% (this includes all print/caption differences in the set)

Now, if you are only concerned about the different player images and don't care for the print/caption variations, the total number of images used is different. Then you're looking at 22 different HOFer fronts, instead of 36. And if you apply this same criteria to all the the cards in the set, the total number of different player fronts drops from 104 to 73 (taking out the print/cation differences in the entire set).

So then you have 22/73 = 30.1% (if print/caption differences on the same cards are removed)

If anyone cares or wants to know, I can break it down further.

Default Diamond Stars...

According to my research when I put together my website, there are 32 HOFers in the 1934-36 Diamond Stars set. (See link below.)

http://www.bandkgreen.net/diamond_st...lloffamers.htm

So, that's 32 out of 96. The high numbers (97-108) have some HOFers, but they're in the low number series as well.

Default Brainless fun

I would do the E121 sets, but that would be brain work, so instead I offer the much simpler E120:

E120 = 35/240 15%

1914 Cracker Jacks have 31 HOFers in 144 cards
The 15's only have 32 out of 176
However, if looking at expensive cards in the set, one can't forget about Joe Jackson...

Default HOF % of Set

Here's a few more for your list, from the PSA registry site that shows HOF "sets":

T207 13/200 or 6.5%
T3 25/100 or 25%
T205 28/221 of master set, or 12.7%
Diamond Stars shows 37/108 for 34.3% incl high #s
1915 CJ 32/176 or 18.2%

Also, T211 is probably 0% (0 of 75).
Take care,

Ron R

Default 1935 Goudey 4-in-1

I don't think anyone posted about 1935 Goudey 4-in-1 yet (one of my favorite sets).

I guess the HOFers could be counted in different ways for this set, since there are four players featured on each card.

By my count, there are 138 different players in the set (144 total images, but Bottomley, Cochrane, Comorosky, Mancuso, Kamm, and Brandt each appear twice). 33 of those players are HOFers, so:

33/138 = 22.5%

Another way to look at it is that there are 36 cards in the set and at least one HOFer appears on 22 of them, so:

22/36 = 61% of the cards feature at least one HOFer

Default Team!

Thanks for all of the help guys! I will try re-editing the list when I get home from work.

I'm glad that you find this list useful. Someday I hope to type out all of the HOFers by name as well...but baby steps, man...baby steps!

Default One More D322 HOFer

Actually there are now, as of 2008, three D322 Tip Tops in the HOF, though only two are players. Wagner, Clarke and the newly elected team owner, Barney Dreyfuss.

The Mascot didn't make the cut.

Default Thanks to Brian P-beme

A power lifter!
Thanks for the outstanding effort!
There are a few really good threads going around right now, and for the most part not too much abrasiveness...so this bumpage is just to keep our team's thread (wink wink) from falling to the abyss of page two or beyond.

I will try to update the master list tomorrow... Too tired now as I just returned from the AAA Portland Beavers Opening Night against the Sacramento River Cats (Oakland affiliate) where our beloved Beavers were dammed by A's prospect Vin Mazzaro. Keep an eye on this youngster you fantasy leaguers in deep leagues...He's nasty!

G'Night!

I was searching for something else on Net54 and I came across this fun thread from over a decade(!) ago started up by another distinguished Brian gentleman.

I may be a little late, but here is another set:

1933 Tattoo Orbit 18/60 =30.0%

Brian (I will go back to lifting those heavy weights)

Default The good old days!

I remember this thread. Not just because I started it with the intention of having several different guys write about and tally up their favorite sets but because I really wanted a master list.

I could have hit the Googles or the Bings and done it all , alone in my office.
I thought it would be more fun this way.

So thank you BP, card fellow fellow. Your resuscitation is appreciated.
Just think, some sets may have added HOFERS in the past decade+.
So you can always add to / or correct a set previously compiled or tally another one.

Trivia= who were the Prewar HOFers elected in the last ten years and which sets did they add to the ledger above?

E98 17/30
Or is it 16/30 because that bum Irv Young is masquerading as Cy Young?

Definitely the makers of E98 intended this card to be identified as Cy Young, due to the Cleveland team designation, a team Irv never played for. Unfortunately they chose Irv's image, either in error, or because they were rat bastards.

A similar but different case is the E93 of Collins. I believe Standard Caramel intended the card to be identified as Jimmy Collins, as the photo used was of Jimmy. Because both Eddie and Jimmy Collins were on the 1908 Philadelphia A's team, I believe in later years when this set was being catalogued an error was made in identifying it as Eddie, the player who had the better career and was undoubtedly more well known at that time.

Another couple for the list:

1936 Goudey 8/25 = 32.0%
1938 Goudey 18/48 = 37.5%

I believe the E98 Eddie Collins image is also Jimmy Collins.
