Default T210 Red Border Portraits

Posted By: paulstratton

I know this is an extremely large set, but it doesn't seem to have an enormous amount of portraits from what I have seen. I have Manion and Lipe. What other portraits are out there? Is there a list somewhere? I think it would be an attractive subset to put together.

Hi Paul,

I am also very fond of the portraits that appear in the T210 set. I have started to collect a little outside of my normal T210 collecting habits (strictly series 2) and begun to collect portraits. So far i've only grabbed up two but I haven't really pursued them too much. They really do make for an amazing looking card. The series 6 Paris players are amongst my favorite as well as the series 6 Frankfort players. I can't help you with how many portaits there are total in the set, though action poses seem much more prevalent.

Since we're already on T210s, does anyone else find it extremely odd that out of over 600 cards only one is horizontal ? I guess I don't find it strange that there are so few horizontals, as some sets have zero, but only including one is a bit odd. You would think that if they decided to make one horizontal card that they would have included a few more.

I'm close to having series 6 complete. Here are the 5 portraits I have... and I'm fairly certain these 5, Angermeir, Cornell, Hoffman, Kuhlmann, and Scheneberg, they are the only portraits in series 6.

I'd love to see more.

Frank W.

So we're talking maybe 40-50 portraits total? Thanks for posting those so far.

Who is the one horizontal Zach?

I just got finished browsing all of my T210 images. Here are the portraits I could find. More likely exist, but these are undoubtfully the majority of them in the set.

Angermeir
Cornell
Cowman
Crable
Hill
Hise
Hoffman
Hooker
Hornsby
Kaphan
Kuhlmann
Lipe
Merritt
Messitt
Neuton
Northen
Pressly
Revelle
Riley
Scheneberg
Schrader
Spangler
Watson
Wickenhofer

I can't remember the name of the only horizontal card in the set, although he does appear in the third series.

Edited to add that the Hornsby mentioned above (series 3) is or I guess was Rogers Hornsby's older brother.

Thanks James. Both of those are beautiful cards. I guess I forgot the Wickenhofer as I know the image of the card well and have owned one before. Another player that needs to be added is Watson.

I made a mistake, I have Schrader and not Lipe. I think I have seen Lipe though, same shot as t206. I would leave it out unless someone else has seen one. Add Corkhill as I found an image of his. By my count it is up to 26. Only 1 in series 1. 6 in series 2. 14 in series 3. 5 in series 6. No portraits in series 4,5,7,8 yet. It looks as though the whole Houston team could be portraits with only Bell, Carlin and Rose uncomfirmed out of 12 total.

A few more to add...
Series 1-Manion
Series 3-Bell
Series 7-Cowell
Series 8-Foster, Dick, Hart

The horizontal in Series 3 is Morris.
Rogers' brother with Houston was Everett Hornsby.

Looking at the Erbe book it seems the following are probables for a portrait version, as they have 2 cards in the set.

Series 1
Lee(Macon)

Series 2
Smith(Lynchburg)

Series 3
Smith(Shreveport)

Series 5
Corbett(Anderson)
Roth(Spartanburg)

Series 6
Goostree(Winchester)

Series 7
Gastmeyer(Rocky Mount)

Series 8
Thomas(Montgomery)
DeMontreville(New Orleans)

Approximately 40 total if these are verified.

Hey Paul, What is the Erbe book????

Goostree in T210 series 6 has 2 cards, one of him standing with his hands behind his back, the other leaning on a bat (and I dearly want to buy the one with the bat). Here's the former version, and it is not a portrait.

I have a few other T210s with portraits. Had more, but sold and traded them so I could focus on series 6. Manion is in series 1, Messitt and Revelle are in series 2, and Whiteman is in series 8.
Dutch Revelle was an interesting pitcher, it seems he was always just on the edge of making a major league team as the spring training and tour wound down, he'd pitch one of the last games, and then get cut from the squad.

Please tell me more about Erbe.... thanks.

Frank,

The American Premium Guide to Baseball Cards by Ron Erbe. Although the book is from 1982, I use it quite a bit for checklists. The OJ checklists are really good.

So we need someone to go back through all of this, and create a corrected list of the portrait cards...

Hi Frank,

I created one a few days ago with each player, their team, and what series the player is in. I will post it later this afternoon. In the meantime, any other T210 portraits not listed above out there ?

I have one Series 3 and three Series 8 - all non-portrait.
Funny, I never realized it until now.
