I've been surprised and impressed by the sheer number of magazine covers graced by Clemente. His playing days pre-date my awareness of sports, so concurrent magazine spreads isn't something I would otherwise have knowledge of.

Given that generally they are monthly publications, that he was a recognized star for maybe 15 yrs once he got rolling, and yet that there were hundreds upon hundreds of other players during that span to divvy publication covers among, it is impressive you've been able to post here what seems like a couple dozen with RC.

Too bad we don't have an advanced statistic on this to cite, something like an MSA- the magazine saturation average...

Yowza, what's the significance of the tan line going across the '21' on those buttons?? It looks like they're x'ing out Clemente.

It’s a group based out of The Pittsburgh area that is trying to have MLB retire Roberto’s number. Hence, the retire 21. It’s not meant in a negative way.

I appreciate the good furry edge you've got on that '73 OPC.

Not to give away my secrets to competitors, but after taking to heart something I learned from some other thread somewhere, if I'm in the market for an OPC and considering two otherwise equal examples, I go for the one with the fuzziest edges, reasoning since that's a main distinguishing factor from T, then may as well highlight it...

Have been enjoying this thread for quite some time now, great items guys and keep them coming. Would really like to add a Clemente rookie card to the collection. For now happy with this pre rookie, 1954 Montreal, minor league autograph. Haven`t seen too many autos of Roberto before being claimed from the Dodgers organization by the Pirates so when this one came around thought it was too cool to pass up. Again, keep posting the rarer the better !

Thanks Hugh! Great early Roberto auto. Did he only sign his last name on that?

Default Clemente Auto

Thanks for the compliment, and yes he did only sign his last name. Although I`ve seen a few 1954 minor league team auto`ed balls with Roberto`s full name, the story went he was a rather shy signer in person and thus flats this early are pretty hard to find. Not sure if it was the culture/language barrier but in the mid 50`s it wouldn`t surprise me at all. Hang tough, Murph

I posted one of the Action All-Star sticker panels early on (Day 20), with Roberto on the center panel. I don't have the other panel strip though. Unfortunately, I don't have the 68 3D. I had an opportunity 10-15 years ago to purchase one in PR condition for $3000-4000, but I passed. So probably a white whale for me now as I don't purchase too many big ticket items anymore.

Day 331

In the late 1990s/early 2000s, bobble heads were all the rage...and of course I had to have every Roberto nodder.

ca. 1990s "Catman" (some guy in Canada) fantasy nodder...

2001 PNC Park giveaway. These are actually some of my favorite Clemente nodders (other than the 1962 nodder)...

Also from 2001, two different versions...

Great shot! But, yowza, Bob Skinner looks like a gigantic ogre next to Roberto!!! Six four, my butt. That guy has gotta be seven feet tall.

The 1975 issue is one of my favorites. You get Topps, OPC AND the Mini’s which are all neat looking. Of course that blank back you pictured was a favorite; those are hard to come by from my experience. Wish they at least had Frank in his Orioles unit for the ‘66 card or at least do a little air brushing.

I like how you snuck the OPC card in on a separate day; I think you owe “us” another Clemente day 😉
