Default Gathering Cards for a PSA Piggybacking Submission for AUGUST - CARDS BACK!!

Hey guys...sorry to post in this thread, but I'm hoping to stir up interest. In a nutshell, the PSA specials for this month SUCK!! We have been WAITING, and WAITING for a modern special, and it just has not materialized. $10 a card for grading is just NOT happening. I am looking for submitters under the BULK special. I am up to 50 already. If I can round up 50 more, we can submit under the $7 per card (100 card minimum) BULK special. For those who have submitted with me in the past, they can vouch for me. I try to make it as easy as possible, even though it isn't! :-p ALL years are included, but the cards can not be valued over $100. We can fudge it a bit, but PLEASE, no Hank Aaron rookies!!! These MUST be standard size or smaller only. Anyway, hopefully we can get there.

I am interested, but I will have to get organized enough to see if I can make it work.

I'm in. Except at least 10 from me.

Also, I've submitted with Bob a couple of years ago and can vouch for him.

Generally these kind of Group submission things shouldn't be done on the front page. I realize it gets more eyeballs than any other section.
That said if it looks like it's benefitting our community, and doesn't involve it being a profit center for the host (*or much of one) then an extraordinary thread would seem to be ok....My guess is there are quite a few guys saying, "hey, he shouldn't be doing that on the front page".....

there is no profit in it for me at all. As a matter of fact, I venture to say I lose a little bit, as the shipping charges PSA charges are out of this world. Usually I have enough to meet the minimum quantities myself, with whatever special PSA is running. PSA is not cooperating as far as specials go this time around. I am venturing to guess that the days of $6 specials might be a thing of the past, and PSA is pushing towards a higher starting price point. Just a guess though. Thanks for letting this be in the main group Leon....I think rounding up the extra 50 needed to make the BULK 100 special might be a little hard considering the boards preference towards SGC.

I got it Bobby. I just felt like nipping the thoughts (and thoughts of other threads being here) in the bud. All is good or we would be chatting in another section starting a little while ago.

I'm gonna post it here, so EVERYONE can see it....

Include the cards in a CS I - along with a slip of paper stating what they are, the value you place on them, along with return shipping and your net54 handle (so I can PM you).

The cost will be $7 + $1 per card for shipping to and from California.

Send to:
Robert Williams
PO Box 61362
Raleigh, NC 27661-1362

Include a personal check, or if you rather paypal F/F upon arrival that is cool too. That's pretty much it. They will go out around the 3rd week in August. Under the bulk special, ALL cards are included. There is no year cut-off. They must be standard size (Topps) or smaller (T206s). No big cards, tall boys, Mutoscopes, etc. There is a $100 value limit per card.

Some members here got on the vintage special I ran last month that popped in about 6 days. That IS NOT the norm!! (The special is for 45 business days - sometimes they pop faster). Also, they have not ran a modern special in about 4 months. I'm just tired of waiting, and I feel a little guilty, because I am holding onto members cards from the past in hopes of a modern special that has not materialized. I feel guilty holding other people's cards, so I just want to get the ball rolling on SOMETHING.

I've never submitted a single card for grading before...but have a 93 SP Jeter in a BGS case I'd like to crossover.....but does that card fall under the "$100" limit?

Thanks!

I have to check value.....and crossovers aren't permitted here. In order for it to go, you'd have to "crack it out". That's a whole 'nother ball of wax....

Roger that. Thank you.
I usually crack all my cards out, so I'm adept at that at least!

Hey, Bobby, a couple of questions for you:

1. What is the cut-off date to be included in this?
2. You said shipping is $1. That's to get the cards from you to PSA, correct? What about the return shipping to get the graded cards from your hands back into ours?
3. This always comes up, but when there is a $100 limit, how in heck is that determined? What is the basis for it? For instance, I have a few variations that I would like to get graded, but how do I determine what their 'value' is, especially if you can't find any sort of sales history? Could people PM you a list of cards they are going to include, so you can decide if they fit the parameters of this project?

Thank you.

The $1 per card is for shipping from NC to California, and from California back to NC. You are responsible for individual shipping back to yourself, once they come back, but it is a fair shipping value, as I don't gouge at all like PSA does. I ship using actual cost (or as close to it as I can....I may charge .25 for packing peanuts or something, but when I tell people a total, that is pretty much what it cost to ship the package. - You can ask others who have submitted thru me - I don't gouge). I weigh the packages on my scale, and if it is below 16 ounces, it can go first class. Over 16 has to go Priority Mail. As far as determining values, I am a VCP member. I don't mind helping on a few, but don't have me looking up a whole bunch. We all know pretty much which cards are above and below $100. PSA is pretty lenient, but they don't want to see Hank Aaron/Mickey Mantle rookies on a bulk sub. Ebay complete listings should also give a good idea of value as well.

No, no, no. I was in no way suggesting you gouge or anything like that. That never even remotely entered my mind. I was simply looking for specifics, so people (me included) would have all the information spelled out for them here.

Thanks.

Oh ok....I thought you had subbed with me before?? Maybe I'm mistaken? I used to do these on the PSA boards, and they were very popular over there. But that board has lost a lot of good members (and some not so good ones), and is a shell of its' former self.

No, I have never actually had any of my cards graded before, but I know I have to take the leap at some point. Do you have a deadline in mind for this undertaking?

I would LIKE them by August 21st, but unlike the monthly specials, there is technically no deadline for the Bulk special.....

PSA recommends you use the raw replacement value for the same card in the same raw condition. So even if you think your card may grade an 8 and be worth $300, you can submit it as a $75 value. They use it for determining return insurance and for being insured while in PSA's hands in case it is damaged. So if for some reason the card is lost or damaged in PSA's hands, they'll probably reimburse you the $75 or $99 you claimed, not the $300 a PSA 8 would be worth after it's graded.
On the last PSA bulk sub from blowout forums, a card was submitted as a $30 value for a 1977 football HOFer that ended up grading a 10. It might be worth $1000 now that it's the POP 1 PSA 10 (PSA 9s had an SMR of $250), but PSA let it fly through the shipment without being upgraded to a higher service level.

For the guy considering cracking a BGS 93 SP Jeter, PSA will be very tough on that card. It has to measure exactly 3.5"x2.5" or PSA will mail it back ungraded as MINSIZREQ. Then you have an ungraded Jeter RC you'll have to mail back to BGS with your tail between your legs.

And another question from the 'I've never had a card graded' set...

Hopefully I'm going to send you a bunch of cards, and some will be variations ('recognized' variations, not weird print anomalies and such). Are there specific PSA forms we should fill out beforehand to include with the cards, so there will be no mistakes made (such as PSA NOT indicating on the flip that the card is the variation)? Plus, this would also save you a helluva lot of time doing paperwork, yes?

Do you see specific examples of others being graded with the specific variation that you have?? If you have, that shows precedence, and I will be able to find the variation when I do the spreadsheet. If you HAVE NOT seen other cards being graded with your variation, then you have to call PSA and see if they are willing to catalogue your variation in particular, and that is a whole new ball of wax that I am not interested in getting into. Getting PSA to recognize new variations is an EXTREMELY undertaking chore.

No, I included this statement "('recognized' variations, not weird print anomalies and such)" to purposefully head off thoughts like that at the pass. The cards will all be accepted, known variations. My only concern is PSA thinking, for instance, a 1966 Topps Groat without the traded statement on back (the variation) is just a regular 1966 Groat card. So, if we spell out to you what the card is (including PSA's exact terminology from the POP reports - in this case, Dick Groat No Trade Statement), you'll add that to the forms and all is fine, no problems? That works for me. Cool. Just wanted to make sure that the paperwork for all the cards will jibe.

If it is a KNOWN graded variation, and you note it as such, when I do the spreadsheet, it will pop up. I used to do these forms by hand. Until I realized HOW easy it was to do the spread sheet!!! It prefills the info for you once you start typing, showing you all variations. I know I'm doing a horrible job at explaining how it works, but it really makes it idiot proof. Now I wont ever do it by hand ever again.

Sorry if I missed it, but are you capping the submission at 100? I am interested in joining but sounds like you are nearing/are over 100 based on feedback. Thanks, Bobby!

No...no cap....

If you want to send them, come on...if not, save them for a time when I might need to pull the old BULK SUB out of the hat again. The Bulk Sub, as cheap as it sounds, has not been as cheap as the monthly special had been. HOWEVER, PSA has been a little slow to put out a "MODERN" sub special. I'm not sure if they are pushing towards a higher price point or not. I'm not paying to find out.

Hey Bobby, I'm gathering my cards to send over to you and I have yet another question. What do we do about qualifiers? Some people specifically want straight grades without qualifiers and others don't mind whether or not a qualifier will be attached. Do we tell you what we want in this regard?
Thanks.

Unfortunately, we cant pick and choose which cards to have qualifiers for and which ones don't. The default is qualifiers. I have noticed that they usually aren't assigning qualifiers willy nilly. If a card deserves a qualifiers, it usually gets one. If not, then it don't.

(Spoke to Bobby via PM, but will post here, too) I'm assembling my cards as we speak and it will be a minimum of 20, but most likely closer to 30.
