Default T206 Titus Trimmed?

There has been a lot of talk recently about potentially trimmed T206s. This one certainly deserves a view, especially being a high profile card. It is graded SGC 80, Ebay #121270055320. The top border looks very uneven and wavy.....Very solid seller, but this card doesn't look right....Opinions?

Slight bat ear at bottom right. Top edge definitely looks uneven.

IMHO, it looks like a poor job was done trimming down an oversized card. I guess the experts at SGC thought otherwise.

Best regards,

Eric

Default Titus

Here's the actual link to the Titus in question: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121270055320

At first glance I could see how one would think the top is trimmed, but without looking at it under a loupe, you can't really say for sure. Now I know TPG's get it wrong at times, but SGC is pretty good with T206's. So I'd have to think that while the top has an odd cut, I'd vote for a rough factory cut.

Nice little WST going on with this one as well.

I agree with you Kevin that the seller is very solid.

Joe's a very solid seller, i've bought a number of things from him. i've seen many cards over the years with some funky cuts that are legit. not every single card was perfectly cut in the factory. here's my example (it looks totally fine under a loupe).

My McGinnity also has a dramatically slanted top. I'm no expert at spotting trims (have actually held a known trimmed card under a loup but couldn't fully trust I was seeing the signs correctly), but had always assumed it was just a weird factory cut... maybe these will start to fall into the freak and miscut category.. and the second it does I'm selling it!!

Not seeing the "bat ear" at bottom right. The bottom right corner looks consistent with what I normally see on most other T206s with similar wear.

Generally, when I see T206s that are trimmed on one or more edges, I notice cuts that are completely straight. When more angular cuts are seen (as here), it is a factory miscut in the majority of cases. At least that's my experience.

Also add that the Lionel Carter pedigree reassures me to some extent as he got most of his stuff before anyone would bother trimming a common card and stored it raw. The grading took place when the selloff took place.

To add my voice to the chorus, Joe is a top-flight seller so no qualms or questions there.

I would hardly define an SGC 80 Titus as a high profile card? The card at a glance ok not unlike many T206’s I’ve seen before as others have said. Unless I saw it in person I would be ok, also add in Joe is a good seller that would add to my confidence to buy the card if it was wanted or needed.

When I saw the title I thought you'd located a copy of the elusive without moustache variation.

Just wanted to clarify that I was not making a statement about the seller in my post above.

Our power is out (along with a few hundred thousand other people's) and I was only able to view the card on my phone. When magnified as large as possible on the phone, it appears that the bottom right corner of the card juts out ever so slightly along the very bottom of the vertical edge.

Apologies to anyone who may have taken offense...it was not my intention.

Best regards,

Eric

I was hoping for the ultra-elusive "mustache only" variation. No Titus at all, just his 'stache.

Right, but (not saying it happened) his cards could have been altered by the submitter. So the provenance only gets you so far.
