Default Went To Burbank Show In Search of 1914 Cracker Jacks

Went to VIP night on Thursday and man sm I glad I went. Great show with great vibes all around. Talked to many dealers and came to one conclusions. 14's are rare and hard to find. I literally went to every table and literally found a few 15's. But on my last aisle. Found 2 14's. One was a Auth Cobb ($$$) and a 1914 Eddie Plank. After some negotiating, I got it! I hesitated but reminded myself of the rarity of these cards - especially Eddie Plank.

Congrats on the Plank.

I know for a fact there will be a 1914 CJ Ed Walsh SGC 2.5
in the REA Spring auction starting on April 5th, 2024.

Congrats on the pickups!! '14 CJs are tough and they have become tougher over the past few years. There have not been many up for sale lately.

Hopefully they don't look like these.

If they do, I suggest going back tomorrow to get your money back.

Default 1914 Cracker Jack: Chick Gandil

Here's a (real) card to keep Leon calm:

Charles A. "Chick" Gandil. First baseman for the Washington Senators in 1912-1915. 1,176 hits and 151 stolen bases in 9 MLB seasons. 1917 World Series champion. He led AL first baseman in fielding percentage 4 times. He debuted with the Chicago White Sox in 1910. His best season was 1913 with Washington as he posted a .363 OBP with 72 RBI's and 22 stolen bases in 603 plate appearances. He finished his career with the Chicago White Sox in 1917-1919. He is best known as the "ringleader" of the players involved in the 1919 Black Sox scandal.

Congrats on the pickup. I was at the show also and picked up some 1933 HOF Goudey at solid prices from a very nice dealer. I wasn't hunting Cracker Jacks but they always catch my eye since they're such beauties. Definitely not a ton in the room.

Just wanted to add that your flickr stream is awesome, Casey!

This was posted in another thread. Here's the link to the card (I think):

It's definitely a nice "1".

I perused Phil’s flickr based on this recommendation. What a fantastic collection of eye candy!

I guess it's not a west coast thing to post pictures of the showcases of cards that are on sale/display. That show is a 2.5 hour drive for me (assuming good traffic). I can still remember driving a non-holiday Saturday to that area and it took over 4.5 hours. Since then (a couple years ago) I've sworn off driving that direction unless there was a good reason. Pictures of show cases with really nice stuff would be a reason.

I've been to some of the east coast shows and usually shit myself because those shows are like mini-nationals. I've been to west coast shows and am usually disappointed.

Anybody got any pictures form this last Burbank show? Please don't go to that other thread (I think the get together was in VA) and pull pictures from that thread...

Interesting - that card is on Ebay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/166612895034

And there is another earlier listing from before the OP's post.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/166601318417

Maybe it is a different card?
