Default Net54 Charity Auction/Painted Turtle 2008?

Posted By: Dan Bretta

Are we doing this again next year? Probably never too early to start on it.

For those that don't know - you can donate a card which will be pooled into an auction lot with all proceeds from the winning lot going to The Painted Turtle which is a camp for seriously ill children in California.

edited because the auction house may be undetermined at this time.

The 2nd annual Net54 charity auction is coming, look early 2008. Sit tight, and start stashing away those donations!

Last year's auction sold for over $6000!

Last year's auction was awesome, this year's will be even better. Some great things are in the works, but again, look for an announcement the first week of 2008!

Not getting into too many details, there will be a one month period to send in your donations.

Love seeing so many interested!

Here's what I can share for now, more details again to come January 2008.

2nd Annual Net54 Charity Auction
Hosted by Heritage Auction Galleries

Heritage has offered not only to host our 2nd annual auction, but contribute to it! Heritage will be donating not only the Buyer's Premium, but also items to the auction! This one is going to be big. Maybe we'll have to split it into two or three lots!

The specific charity is undetermined, and will change. The focus of the cause will remain the same though, children.

Any questions, please email me, as I will be leading the cause, receiving donations, just like last year.

Happy Holidays,
-Kyle

Lance, last years auction lot was hosted by REA and was lot #1594 - it totaled $7,050. I can't seem to find it on REA's website, but if you have the catalog it is the very last lot in the 2007 auction.

I would hope that we could have a separate lot from Heritage's donation just to see what we can muster here from Net54 contributors and make it our goal to beat last years total. Perhaps Heritage can match our total or have a separate lot which is designated for the charity.

I agree with Dan. Our Lot should be segregated from any Heritage items.

Dan,

Will it be limited to just cards? I'm not sure I have anything worthwhile, but I can donate a spare press pin and maybe some pennants.

Greg,

Anything you are willing to donate will be happily accepted. Last year we have pins, cards, promos and more.

We also have a cash donation sent directly to the Painted Turtle in name of our cause.

-Kyle

I am sure Heritage will work with us so we can know what Net54'ers donate on our own....They have been easy to work with in the past and I am sure this will be no different. regards

Dan and Kyle,

Where can we send items? Address? when should we send them in?

I hope this "good will towards man" thread gets as much attention as those that go on forever with bad will being the common denominator.

Come on guys, this thread should have a hundred replies on it by now. It doesn't take much, especially considering how much cash we're all spending on this hobby of ours.

You're some of the good guys, Dan and Kyle.

Greg

Address and more details to come at the beginning of the new year. We've got a schedule laid out so it is less rushed this year.

Has it already be4en decided what the charity is this year? I must have missed that discussion. How about instead one for the brave Iraqi war heroes who are coming back home after serving our country.

You will not derail or take charge of this worthwhile event. Kyle and I have chatted about a charity and we both agree that helping ill children is a great cause. I would guess that will be the sort of charity that is picked, if not The Painted Turtle again. Helping our soldiers is a wonderful idea too but there are a million great causes. Also, btw, I will step in on this thread where you are concerned, and not let you do what you do to so many other threads (ie..the proverbial train wreck). I promise it won't happen. IF you want to donate then fine..if not that is ok too. No one is forced to donate...Also, here is another forewarning...anyone causing havoc in this thread will have their post deleted.. If anyone has a problem with this they can email me and discuss it. I will listen......take care

Leon,

Whoa--who said I want to take charge or derail it?

All I asked is if it has been decided--I thought there was a debate last year and I was wondering if there was going to be one this year. Sounds like an executive decision.

I still remember the 1st NY Dinner...I had my executive committee (wife) talked into letting me go. Barry and I were all excited about it...then you completely took over and I had to bow out because of the time frame and changes you instigated.
No executive decision on this one..It's Kyle's final call....but helping terminally ill children is what we have talked about...regards

It will be a charity that benefits children, and I will be looking into other options out there. When I figure out which one it will be, the board will be the first to know.

My wife and I enjoy supporting the Jimmy Fund, which has been supported by the Red Sox for many years (children's cancer research and treatment). The Painted Turtle looks great as well, Kyle. Any charity for kids is worthwhile. I look forward to giving what I can and I applaud your efforts.
