Default Do these items exist? Lets see visual confirmation!

I'm sure we all have items on our want lists that we may have never seen an example of firsthand. So lets post a few of these items and see if anyone can provide a scan to satisfy our curiosity!

I'll start the thread with my desire to see a PE2 Diamond Gun pin of Red Dooin.

I have the only other catchers in the set, Bill Carrigan and Ira Thomas, already.

He is on the Diamond Gum checklist, however, I don't recall ever seeing one.

Patrick, I've got one: a D381 Jennings. This card has been catalogued going back to the Sports Collectors Bible days, but I've never seen one and I don't know of any collector who has, either.

My suspicion is that the card does exist. It was likely Larry Fritsch who provided the info on this set and he was known to have a big group of them. Also, I think the Jennings card was issued only by Ferguson Bakery and not by Fleischmann Bakery, so like all Fergusons, it's rare. The Johnson card is another Ferguson-only card (along with Nehf and Tragesser) and it was never catalogued until it appeared on this site in a thread about 15 years ago.

If someone has an image, please share it!

I would love to see a image of a PC760 Rose Co. postcard of Tris Speaker.

Like Bill's example, the Speaker has been on checklists since the days of The Sports Collector's Bible.

Personally, I doubt that it exists since Speaker was not very well known when the set was initially issued in 1908. Plus, each of the 16 teams have exactly 12 cards in the "main" set from 1908 and all 12 subjects are known for the Boston AL team, BUT the Rose Co. did add a few players subsequently (Abstein, Isbell, Knight, McConnell, Oakes, Sebring, Spade, etc.), to their initial set of 192, so there is a chance that Speaker was issued. If he does exist, he would certainly be part of the "no team" series that was issued in 1909.

Hopefully Jerry S., the expert regarding the PC760 Rose Co. set, will chime in regarding whether this postcard exists.

Default Wiltse

Hi John,
I have one. As far as I can find out, he never played for Jersey City. His tough T213-2's are the 2 Brooklyn versions. He played for the Brooklyn Tip-Tops in 1915.

Default Signed T206s

Signed T206s of Stanage, Moriarty, Schmidt, Bresnahan (Portrait), Pattee, or Shaw

I have only been able to view 57 different signed T206 poses that are credible or authenticated by PSA, JSA, or BAS.

Years ago, I heard claims about Stanage, Moriarty, and Schmidt signed poses from a Net54 collector, but he refuses to or is unable to send me scans, so it is hard to credit the representation.

Renowned autograph dealer Phil Marks says that a bunch of signed T206 Bresnahans exist in private collections, but I have only seen the one batting pose that has been authenticated by PSA. I have never seen another, or the portrait pose.

Shaw and Pattee lived into the 1970s -- in fact Shaw was the 3rd-to-last T206er to pass away, survived only by Livingston and Marquard -- and should thus be reasonably possible. His signature is just 6 letters long, so it is surprising to me that the forgers were not able to get a fake one through the experts. We know that the forgers did purchase an unsigned Shaw, so maybe they tried but were unsuccessful. Naturally, if any of these show up for the first time without provenance tomorrow, they should be viewed as highly suspicious.

Still, it is exciting to imagine what could be out there lurking in private collections. In the only email I have ever gotten from Keith Olberman he told me that he had about 25. But, he never responded to follow up emails about which ones he had. If only all collectors of signed T206 cards would post scans of their treasures, the world would be a better place!

1913 Voskamp’s Mensor.

It is listed on the checklist on back of all cards. To the best of my knowledge, there is no existing image of the card.

My first completed pose run for n172 was of Geo "Germany" Smith. Now I am working on Smith's n173 format run. I have 425-2 and 425-5. Does anyone have or know about 1, 3, and 4?

Default 1912 Boston Garter Walter Johnson

The 1912 Boston Garter cards have a checklist on the backs. Among the players listed is Walter Johnson. I have never seen an image of this card. Does anybody have one?

I've got a lot of "confirmation wants":
  • D303 Mothers' Bread Rube Bressler and Nap Lajoie
    https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=250083

  • D303 General Baking Eddie Plank "no position"

  • T216 Virginia Extra Christy Mathewson (none are known to exist, but it's a theoretically possible card)

  • T215-1: Ames, Bender (pitching, no trees), Bridwell, Collins, Doolan (batting), Doyle (batting), Hummel, Konetchy, Krause, Lajoie, Leach, Magee, Marquard, Mathewson (dark cap), McGraw (glove at hip), Merkle, Murphy, Oakes, Pelty, Schaefer, Smith (Cincinnati), Smith (Montreal), Speaker, Tinker (bat off shoulder), Heinie Wagner, Warhop, White, Young

  • T215-2: Bender (pitching, no trees), Bresnahan (Chicago Nat'l), Camnitz, Cree, Davis, Doolan (batting), Dubuc, Griffith, Hofman, Konetchy, Lake, Leach, Lord, Mathewson (dark cap), McGraw (glove at hip), Merkle, Miller, Paskert, Schaefer (Washington), Schaefer (Chicago Nat.), Smith (Cincinnati), Smith (Montreal), Heinie Wagner

Theoretically, Harry Wright should be in the Gypsy Queen set, but I have never seen an image of the card. Does anyone have one? I would also be interested in seeing images of Bishop-Pittsburgh, Collins-NY, Bassett-Indianapolis, Daly and Sullivan-Chicago, Weidman-Detroit, and Henderson-Brooklyn. Thanks-Jay (oldjudge@gmail.com).

Steve, here's T215-2 Lake. Lipset has it catalogued. Rough condition, but you can still see a blue remnant of "Detroit".

Hi Paul—mostly “0” numbered players, plus some short number players, plus a few more. Maybe someday I’ll do a Gypsy Queen book.

Hi John and Rick,

I also have a copy of the Wiltse pitching on Jersey City as part of my Jersey City collection. Just to point out that they are out there if you look for them.

Not prewar but I would love to see any 1960 Armour Meats Denver Bears other than Walz and Donnelly. I bought Walz over six years ago thinking I could finish the set in a few years but haven't seen any offered since.

Let's see a 1923 W572 Walt Barbare.

Since I've been asking for about 10 years - I'm pretty sure it won't appear.

Cheers,

According to Baseball-Reference, Hooks Wiltse pitched 11 games for the Jersey City Skeeters in 1915. He went 2-2 with a 2.54 era in 46 innings.

Perhaps someone on the prewar side might know of a 1960 Complete Bazooka box with Clemente or Mantle or Mays?? Would love to see a scan! Newer to prewar collecting and still learning tons - so no good elusive ones to ask for there........yet. Enjoying everyone's requests.

1. I’ve never seen a Hage’s Dairy Tommy Bridges in 10 years of searching.

2. Is it true 1941 Play Ball paper versions exist outside of the first two sheets and that they just weren’t distributed?

I'd like to see a D350-1 Standard Biscuit of Zach Wheat. This is the card that supposedly replaced the super rare Bobby Wallace. But I've never seen the "common" Wheat. Wheat is easy to find in the blank back M101-5 set and with other backs, but I can't find him with the Standard Biscuit back. I am starting to think that Wallace made it all the way through the Standard Biscuit print run. It was just a very small print run.

That's awesome, thank you for sharing, Scott!

Hi John,

I assume you are talking about Type 2 T213's.
Can't help you with the Meyers.

Missed this thread when it first started, but I have a card I've never seen as well, a 1928 F-50 Yuengling's card of Earl Smith. Anybody have or seen one?

Around 20 years ago I had a Darby Chocolate box with Wagner on one side and Snodgrass on the other. I sold it to a well known collector in New York ( I also sold a Walter Johnson but not a box, just the card and a Cobb that was a single card but completely restored).

A different Cobb pose was sold in REA and it was a complete box, see picture.
