Default E254 Ed Summers Jersey Variation (Scan Included)

As many of you probably know, I have been working on the E254 set for a while. In the years that I've been collecting them, on of the thorns in my side was always the E254 Ed Summers "gray jersey" and "white jersey" variations.

The one pictured below with the "white-out" jersey is among the easiest 100 or so cards in the set (not as easy as some but far from a tough card), however the "gray" jersey version is among the really tough short prints in the set. Over the years I had seen a few that thought might have been the tough version but they were ALWAYS off center to the point that almost the entire jersey was cut off--thus really deminishing the appeal of the card to me (see Old Cardboard Gallery for example of what I am talking about: http://www.oldcardboard.com/e/e2/e254-270/e254gal.asp ).

I was actually starting to wonder if the variation was really worthy of being a true variation until I finally found one that is centered and conclusive. I understand that this probably doesn't mean much to many others on the board but to me it was a major find!

E254 Summers "Gray Jersey" and "White Jersey):

Now comes the question of why the heck did they bother doing this? We'll probably never know but it does make for an interesting card.

Nice find, Rhett; and great research, as always.
