Ask and you shall recieve, Steve Murray said it has been a while since we reintroduced ourselves and I agree, so I decided to help out our fearless leader. My name is Peter Chao.

I'm another one of those boring attorneys you hear about. But first and foremost I consider myself a vintage card collector. I practice real estate litigation, but I'm currently searching for my second career. So if anything interesting pops up on your radar let me know. I'm a big Giants and Athletics fans.

Actually I wouldn't mind trading careers with Barry. However, I'm not big on editing. So on 9/11 I would like to find out more about my fellow vintage card collectors.

Peter C.

Great post. Always enjoy "meeting" our fellow collectors. My name is Paul Griggs. I collect mostly pre 1930 cards, but dead ball era postcards is my passion. I'm 46 yrs young, married with three kids. I've been working in the semiconductor industry as a maintenance technician for 15 years, & I'm currently working on the equipment in the link below.

My name is Matt Wieder. I'm a software engineer, which explains why I can be on this board all day. I'm married with children and live in OH. I've recently returned to collecting after a 9 year hiatus and am currently focusing on collection vintage HOFers in affordable (read LOW) grades.

I am a philosophy professor with specialization in Indian and Tibetan Buddhist intellectual history. I have a couple of books out and one in the pipeline that I am desparately trying to get to the publisher by January. I have done quite a bit of translation work from Classical Tibetan, including for some public teachings by His Holiness the Dalai Lama a couple of years ago.

Other interests include: Travel (25+ countries including several years in Asia), Music (everything from X to the Grateful Dead, Laurie Anderson to late Coltrane), audio gear (nearly as obsessive about my stereo as my baseball cards), vinyl collection (jazz, rock, etc. - a few rarities, but nothing that valuable).

I collect the cards and sets that speak to me, which happen to be primarily early T and E cards, though I have been slowly making my way into the 19th century for a couple of years now. Out of a bit of nostalgia, I recently picked up a 1975 Topps set from a fellow board member. It was the first year I bought packs. I have considered moving into more '50s material too.

edited to add other interests.

I'm 57, married and just started collecting in 2004, shortly after I had a liver transplant. We live on the Suwannee River in Old Town, Florida which is about 40 miles west of Gainesville (Go Gators). I have a homebuilding company which builds custom homes on your lot. I haven't collected any sets, just cards I think are unique and hopefully will rise in value. I attended my first National this year and really enjoy this forum. Keep it up.

In a strange and twisted way, it is because of 9|11 that I am in Omaha. I'd worked in advertising agencies in Lincoln, NE since 1984, moving up from finish artist to creative director. The largest account for the agency I worked for at the time was a manufacturer of small jet aircraft. On 9/13, they pulled their account and ceased to advertise, thinking it was either bad business or in poor taste. I became one of nine (out of 74) to soon be left without a job. So I accepted the position of creative director for a national provider of services for the mentally retarded/developmentally disabled in Omaha. I write and do the layout of all publications, appeals, etc. . Not quite the same as working in the for-profit world, and funds for card purchases have dwindled to nothing. But my family is safe, we eat and have a great place to live. When it comes down to it, that is what is important.

31 years old - I live in the Boston area and I am a big fan of our local sports, started collecting when I was 8 years old. When I was 12 I started buying and selling cards - after college I started collecting pre-war and have learned a lot about other collectibles as well. I am a full time cartographer/engineer and after I got married I started selling more and have been on eBay sense 1998 jbsportsauctions33. I have been working on my website to continue my goals in the hobby as a collector and dealer. I am very active in the hobby and like to travel with my family sometimes on business so we can spend time together. There is not a day that goes by that I do not want to talk, see or hear about what is going on in the hobby and at the same time think about my number one priority my family and other responsibilities. I remember being in Boston on September 11th, I had to be at work by 6:30 a.m. so I was already working for about three hours. The company sent us home about 11:00 or so - I did not get home until 3:00 p.m. - the news, the cars - looking above you while you were in traffic is what I remember. The hobby gives me a break from the real world, and I think it gives me balance as well and helps me get through some really tough days.

Take care

Jimmy

Jeff,

Sorry,

I'm a 44 year old guy, with 6 kids. I'm in decent enough shape to play soccer 3 times a week over lunch (indoor) and softball and soccer outdoor in summer leagues. My dream is to join a competitive dodge ball league at our local YMCA in a few weeks.

I'm self employed www.williamssupplycompany.com selling janitorial supplies. I'm also a landlord, with 4 properties, totalling 8 units.

I collect primarily St. Louis Cardinal memorabilia, especially Lou Brock.

My collection is primarily post WW2, I have only about 100 pre war cards.

49 Y.O.,married... no progeny. Live in greenpoint,Brooklyn.
My mother's great uncle (nap rucker) was a turn-of-the-century pitcher. A visit to him when I was very young (around '69 or '70)got me interested in baseball history. I've been interested ever since.Had a very large vintage collection at one time;sold most of it several years ago...but thanks to this forum I've got a great place to lurk!
I've been steadily employed in television and radio since 1980,and after 25 years with the same company (Lifetime television),my department is about to be forcibly-relocated to CA,and we aren't being asked to come along...new programming execs want their own folks.
So,like Peter,I may also be in the mood for a career change. No way I'll make the money I made here anywhere else, especially seeing as only a month ago I was promoted to senior management. TV is a young-person's business now.
New Mexico looks really good about now.Instead of retiring there later,my wife and I may relocate there when I (hopefully) get my severance and I'll look for work there. Much less pay, hopefully a better lifestyle. We love Albuquerque and Santa Fe and the mountains. I've also done voice overs for many years on the side;maybe I"ll look into that.
My wife's from texas (dallas by way of denton and wellington),and her family said "why don't ya'all move down here!" Very tempting, but the driving, according to my wife, would take its toll.
ANYWAY...I'll miss the NY shows (broadway AND the card shows!),but thanks to you guys I'll have a familiar place to visit every day (thanks Leon!)
Rob Brooklyn,NY (maybe not for long)

I'm a 28 year old landscape professional, married with our first kid on the way around late March '08 (found out on my birthday, Aug. 10 - quite the gift ). Other hobbies include bass guitar (in the genres of R&B, Soul, and Jazz,) graphic design (looking to start my own firm in the future,) hiking, and mountain biking.

My card collection focuses on three areas:

1) Piecing together as much of the T206 set (low grade) as possible.
2) Red Sox from the pre-war era through today.
3) Although not relevant to this board, a Manny Ramirez player collection (excellent numbers and one of the game's great characters.)

Steve, I hardly think that practicing law in Chicago qualifies you to be a country lawyer.

I am a 35 year old 1st grade teacher, amateur mosaic artist, and sometimes appraiser of baseball cards.
My main interests in the baseball field include Phillies (slowly collecting nearly every Phillie from 1886-1989) and t205s and the oddball prewar card here and there. I am a low grade collector as evidenced by my job description.

I'm a married 29 year old with a 3 1/2 month old boy. Been married for two years now. Currently getting ready to deploy for 15 months serving in the US Army. My job is "talking to people". I'm pretty scatterbrained when it comes to collecting, I can't stay focused at all. Did just buy a few T207 cards as that is a set I would like to complete, but we'll see what happens and what else distracts me.

Change your socks, drink water, and drive on.

Hi All:
I'm 47 years old, with a son and a daughter, I'm a systems administrator for Liberty Mutual. I'm an avid T206 collector and student of the deadball era of baseball. I live on the New Hampshire seacoast and an insufferable Red Sox fan. I just retired from playing softball or baseball after playing every year since I was 8. I enjoy very much the fine threads posted by those more knowledgeable than I.

Married, 38, with an 11 year old daughter. Recently relocated to Vero Beach Fla. after a lifetime of Indiana winters. I am an EMT and working on my fire certification for the state. Hopefully to be soon employed with a local FD. I grew up a huge Big Red Machine and Dodger fan. Traded off many Ryan's as a kid for Morgan's and Concepcion's. Attended the 20th reunion show in Cincinnati and obtained a team signed ball. I now collect HOF from 1956 and back, and also putting a e92 Dockman set and 54' Red Heart set together. Frequent ebayer with username "mistercrackerjack". I have made many succesful purchases on here and learned a lot of usefull info.

Married, 43, living in LA County with two kids in college and a Napoleonic complex.

USAF Vet fire/rescue. Former firefighter/paramedic with two Medals of Valor (thankfully not posthumously) and a 3rd downgraded to a Medal of Courage (I was young, stupid with fear driven adrenaline). Now I'm a Corp Risk Manager with eight national TV appearances for catching workers’ comp fraud. Currently I keep to myself and try to hate my boring job.

Have an eclectic collection, basically anything that catches my eye from vintage to modern - baseball, boxing and non-sport.

As many know, my specialty identifying altered cards and helping educate others on what to look for. To do this I learned throughout the years how to doctor cards in every conceivable way to the level they will get past any grading company almost every time. No rejections yet.

Lately my passion has been focused on my Titanic relic collection. It’s one of the largest online museums with various pieces of wreckwood and items never before seen in public. Plus it's one of the only places where someone can buy a piece of real Titanic wood and more.

I am a 46 year old water-quality chemist working for a company that deals with odor control at sewage treatment plants. How glamorous is that? When I'm not worrying about the stink, I play drums for several bands in and around the Ozarks in Southwest Missouri. SOMETIMES I even get paid! I have recorded about 10 CD's, in just about every style of popular music there is. My card focus is HOFers, contemporary to their active careers. Still searching for 15 players, mostly negro leaguers, until completion. Have been at it since 2003, and plan to make it a lifelong quest. So who's got a Toleteros Josh Gibson for cheap?

Hi all, I'm Kyle. 25, not married, currently residing in St. Louis. Relocating to Chicago as soon as I can sell my condo.

When I'm not cheering on the Cubbies, or cursing out Ryan Dempster, I am working for a marketing consulting company partnering colleges and universities with a variety of public and private industry sector clients.

I enjoy going to the gym, bass fishing (not too much in St. Louis though), cooking, trying new beers, playing adult kickball (some serious business in St. Louis) and playing 12 inch softball. I love softball. I play it as much as I can.

I'm a 61 year old experimental psychology professor, married for 30 years with two grown daughters. My collecting interests are primarily in the color 30's sets, of which I have completed a fair number. I collect only beater condition cards, which allows me to complete sets (or at least complete minus most Ruths and Gehrigs). I also am working on 205's and a 48 thru 80 run of Bowman and Topps sets. I've been collecting for about 20 years, starting with a shoe box (yes, I said a shoe box) of cards from my childhood that somehow survived the years.

In addition to collecting cards, I garden, study Civil War history, especially the western campaigns on which I have taught several con ed classes, and sing renaissance music with my church choir. This choir is truly unique in that we have one of the country's most accomplished organists and composer for our director. Most of the works we perform are 16th and 17th century and quite challenging, especially for someone who is not a professional musician.

My fantasy is, after retirement, to spend a chunk of time at spring training with my old college roommate, who is retiring at about the same time. A couple of old farts with a beer and a dog.

Glad to see this come up again. Thanks for the post Peter

45 years old and recently divorced, have 2 girls ages 5 & 7 that live with me full time. Born in Columbus Ohio but raised in Los Angeles still a die hard Buckeye fan. Which made it very hard being in UCLA and USC country and getting our butts kicked every Rosebowl during the 70's and 80's. I started VCP 2 years ago so I can have more time to be with my children. It is a full time job and going very well so far. Past I have developed large database websites, restaurant owner of 3 locations, owner 27th largest screen printing company at one time, and what ever else I could do. Hoping next summer to move to Kauai with my girls as long as I can get the EX to give the Okay.

My name is Dan McHugh IV, I am 25, married for 2+ years and have a major addiction to HOF Rookies, Auto's and Current Rookies.Unfortunatley for me I don't make enough for both my "life" and my baseball card "life" so, I spend it all on my baseball card "life" Anyway I have been collecting cards since 1989 and selling ever since, I used to do the local card shows when I was 15-16 and didn't make too much so I stopped and around the same time I got into the internet, 1st Beckett, then yahoo auctions and finally Ebay (id: chromerookies) and the rest is history.

Default Since Steve Murray Suggested It...Introducing ourselves

Posted By: Dan Bretta

Dan Bretta 39+1 years old, married with one child. I collect anything related to minor league baseball in Nebraska and have focused my prewar card collecting down to just players who were from Nebraska or played there at some point in time. My other interests are attending Nebraska football and American Association baseball games.

Kevin Andrews - 45 years old, married, one child, living just outside of Canton, Ohio. I am Lab Operations Manager at a R&D center for large industrial company. Pulling for the Tribe to be back in the post season this year. I've been collecting prewar cards for the last 20 years. Working on T205, E121 Series of 80, V61 and Tattoo Orbits but I'll branch out to any set showing a Cleveland player.

Just turned 47 in August and am a practicing Veterinarian. Have also just relocated back to Arizona after spending the last 6 months in Cardinal territory (tough being a diehard Cub fan in St Louis) Fortunately, the Cubbies have killed the Cards most the time this year. Also great to be back in the land of Spring training and fantasy camps. Go Cubbies.
