Cardboard stock 7" x 9" 1907 Pickering's Wagner. It seems this is a 1 card set distributed by Pickering's Furniture Pitts.

“Born just thirty-seven years ago, in a storeroom so small that "you had to back out to the sidewalk to turn around."
But now--Pickering's have forged to the front as the "largest credit furniture and carpet house in the world."
Mention "Pickering's" anywhere within a several-hundred-mile radius of Pittsburgh and hear how quickly some one answers, "Your credit's good" or "Nuf ced!"
The reason for the unprecedented growth of the business is as well known as Pickering's popular trade-mark expressions: fair dealing, nothing else. That means the best possible goods at the lowest prices consistent with a living profit; a hearty willingness to extend the people credit; an honest, wholesome way of treating customers after the goods have been delivered.
At Tenth Street and Penn Avenue you will find furniture, carpets, rugs, draperies, gas and coal ranges, heaters, dinner-ware, toilet-ware, framed pictures, cut glass, and bric-a-brac.”

The brown and green colors are new. I'm still looking for colors other than blue, brown and green if anyone has any that they would like to part with.

It is interesting to note the different croppings between the cards. Specifically, the brown card is cropped slightly differently than the blue and green ones.

This one has nothing to do with my collection, really, but I had to add it because I think it's one of the very best images in the entire set.
Thanks Doug!

Way cool card of our first President, from 1885. Seems undergraded - looks like a lock for a "6" to me.

just tilt cut although a bit more at top than bottom. caused by the sheet shifting during the cutting process.

That is one nice looking 3 Gene. Better be careful with those 1911 Zeenuts. They can be addictive.

very cool to see such a nice quality photo image of the guys.
Kling looks alot nastier than he is depicted in most sets, while Chance looks almost identical to his many depictions...and I think that is the first time I have seen a pic of Lundgren, for some reason.
Funny to see how the famous trio is spread out throughout the team shot...I know there was alot of love there.

What is the history of that issue? never heard of it. You had to mail in your warranty card when you bought a new boiler for the house? please share if you know about the set.

thanks!

Jason, thanks for the nice words. I actually stumbled upon the Supplement accidentally while looking for something unrelated (no, not a new boiler haha). I got it from a Lew Lipset ebay auction, and I previously hadn't even heard of it. "Philadelphia Sporting Boiler". In the writeup Lew says there were 16 Supplements, one from each team at the time. I've never seen any others, so if anyone has one please show it!

I did a quick google and couldn't find any info on the paper/magazine/whatever it was, so if anyone does have info please share.

Rob

Lew had all of them on his OldJudge Sale page (not eBay). Was looking at them last night. All were sold. The pics are still there.

very cool Steve & Rob! Wish I had seen them earlier as they are awesome pieces IMO. That Cleveland photo is great. Not as many issues are available from 1904 time frame as is from 1909-1911 so its fun to see earlier stuff.

Thanks for sharing,
Rob

This could get addicting. How many different Red Cobby back variations are there? On a side note, just got back from the hospital. I was doing a small roof repair on my house, & fell off. Broke two ribs, 2 fractures in my pelvis, fractured my tailbone, etc.. Moral of the story- if we can afford expensive old cardboard, pay someone else to fix it. Of course that would cut into the card budget.

Paul, while I have great empathy for your injuries, I do note that your trigger finger is seemingly fine -- which is a shame, considering the number of nice postcards you'll be fighting me out on in the upcoming auctions.

I wrote to Mr. Bill Werber (currently the oldest living MLB player) and asked him to sign this 38 Goudey. A few short days after sending it to him I got it back with his signature. He also included a signed postcard of himself in a Reds uniform. A true gentleman!
