Default Spotting Reprints?

Posted By: GlenV

OK, this isn't pre '43, but close. These Connie Mack cards look real to me. What signs are there that they are reprints (besides the seller saying they are)?

unless I am hallucinating (and could be) it says in the first few words of the description that they are reproductions.....if not, I think the price would have been quite low as a "buy it now" regards all

Going to side with Julie here. They're reprints? They look legit to me but the images are so small it's hard to tell 100%. Why the seller says they are reprints, who knows. I've asked, we'll see.

Someone either lost $50 or got a decent deal.

I guess one way to tell that they're reprints is the fact that the exact same lot of three cards, with the exact same tape on the back, and the exact same rip on the back, are on ebay again.

I think I know what this seller is doing. He is accurately describing his cards as reprints, but deceptively picturing scans of real cards. The plan, I assume, is for someone to look at the scans, think he has outsmarted the dealer, and try to take advantage of the dealer's "mistake" by buying the cards.

Several months ago, a dealer was offering M-101-5s that looked very real, with lots of browning and rounded corners. They were identified as reprints. I asked him a couple of times why he believed they were reprints. He never responded. I couldn't figure out what was going on, so I didn't bid. It may have been the same scam.

Perhaps they are images of the real cards, and he will print them out when he receives payment.

You'e right. I emailed him and he described them as: "...as they are slightly thinner and more glossy than the originals..."

Appears to have mutiple of the same cards, thin and glossy? Sound like computer print outs to me.

He is preying on greedy fools who think they are outsmarting the seller. Can't fault him too much, he is calling them reproductions. Unethical, but not illegal.
