Default My T206 Chase with Trophy needs a new home-NCAA time

Posted By: Bob

As the reigning champion of the Net 54 Forum NCAA Basketball Championship picking contest, it's about time to renew the festivities. Has anyone set up a site for us? Hopefully someone less technologically challenged than I am can get it up and running. We had a lot of fun with it last year and I enjoyed having the Chase Trophy at my home this past year

I can set up a Yahoo Bracket pool and we can all view everything online. Let me know and I will set up and post the info online.

I've always set it up on ESPN in the past. I like it better because it seems to handle large groups better.

As a past champion, Bob can you post a picture of the traveling trophy? By chance have the past champs been listed on the card? I would like to see my old friend again.

I also would like to thank Nick Martinez for being the original donator of the T206, I can't remember what card it was but I switched to the Chase holding trophy since it seemed more appropriate.

Anyone else having difficulty registering? I'm not an ESPN 'member' and I'm hanging up on the Member Registration page.

If Bob wants to put them on the case somehow, here they are...
Year 1- Keith O'Leary
Year 2- Lee Behrens
Year 3- John Effenheim
Year 4- Bob Marquette

And I was able to register just fine, but I was already signed up with ESPN

OK. I'm in. It took me awhile again to find the right screen - for some reason I have trouble navigating ESPN's site. Just a matter of remembering it, I guess.

Hint: After you sign in click on "create or join group" and then type "Net54" into the search field.

Or we could all save a lot of time and trouble and tbob could just email me the trophy card now!! heehee.

I don't post too much, usually just read everything and learn more about the vintage card experience. Anyway, I'm signed up for this tournament as it should be fun. On the off chance that I do win, I request that the card be delivered to the runner up as I'll be in Iraq next year for the next tournament.

After all the crap Dickie V. and Digger unloaded on Arkansas for getting in, I hope my boys have a chip on their shoulders and sing the "no respect" ballad (ala Nolan Richardson) and win some games. Drexel finished 1-5 against the better teams in their conference plus lost to Elon, William & Mary, Furman, etc. Yeah, Dickie, they belong in. Hey Digger, K-State's non-conference schedule included Sisters of the Poor, School for the Blind and North Dakota School for Astronauts. Their RPI and strength of schedule was below Arkansas' Yeah, they deserve to be in. We had an RPI of 30, strength of schedule of 13 and went 5-5 against Top 25 teams and beat several NCAA teams and also beat West Virginia (NIT), Marist (conference champ and NIT), Miss. State twice (NIT), Ole Miss (NIT), Alabama (NIT)twice, etc. Give me a break and quit ragging the Hogs! We had to win 5 straight to get in and beat the division champ twice, Vandy (in NCAA) twice along the way. 4 games in 4 days was too much for the tired but gutty Hogs against Florida, number 1 seed of the number 1 seeds and defending national champs but we are in.
WOOOOOOOOOOO PIG SOOOOOIE!
Dickie and Digger can go to hell.

Hal- did you know that Joakim Noah went to high school in Brooklyn? He attended to upscale Poly Prep, where Meryl Streep and John Franco's kids go, among many other celebrities. Our friends' boys went there and they showed me the yearbook from his senior year. The school devoted a whole page to him and he was a big shot even then. And he will be an NBA star!

When is the deadline again? I have been traveling and had problems connecting w/internet - the wireless card I got from work kept cutting in and out. OK to post b/c I could write and then make sure it was connected before hitting a send button, but couldn't do something like fill out the bracket.

I think I still have time tomorrow, right? I haven't even seen the brackets yet!

Jay, By mistake I created 2 brackets for Net54. Please note that Brennan1 is the only bracket I am playing here. I don't know how to delete the entry( Brennan2) or I would. Sorry for the mistake. Joe.

p.S. I have nothing to worry about though, I can't pick basketball.

In Rememberance of James W. Brennan Sr. 1924-1982. Dad, thanks for everything you did for me.

I think you can have different brackets in seperate groups. Might try to see if you can move the extra to a public group. Unless we get close to the 50 team limit, there is no worry. We will just ignore your extra entry if it does well

Well Bob, if the perimeter trio of Nick Young, Gabe Pruitt and Lodrick Stewart combines for 50 or more, your Hogs will be slaughtered by 'SC (much like your football team the last two years). On the other hand, occassionally this group inexplicably sleepwalks through a game (like they did in the Pac 10 championship against Oregon), in which case the Hogs will survive to the round of 32 and get embarassed by the Longhorns instead.

Scot- The same Longhorns that beat us by 2 on a last second shot at their place this year?
I hope your team is as overconfident as you are because this team is playing their best basketball right now. If Charles Thomas is ready to go (he had 18 points and 18 rebounds Saturday) our front line which is 6-9, 6-11 and 7-0 will dominate the smaller Trojans. You'll need to be at your best to beat us Toss out Sunday's dismal showing. Our guys were flat worn out playing 4 games in 4 days with everything on the line while Florida got a bye and coasted to early 20 point first half leads in their two games and rested their players. Teams with chips on their shoulders can be very tough so beware.
Bob
P.S. You might have thumped us in football in our opener but we came back to win 10 straight and lost only to the #1, #2, #4 and #6 teams in the nation. No losses to Oregon State or UCLA on our resume!

Going back a couple of days, I appreciate your comment. It's always nice to hear that people support the soldiers, even if our government seems to be lost.

In any event, I think this will be a great tournament. I've got Georgetown winning it all, winning against Florida in the final. Good luck to everyone!

49 entrants so far. Everbody is welcome, posters and lurkers! Just go the ESPN page and create an id and password, it's free. You get 5 chances at the ESPN prize. You can create 5 different brackets, it's very user friendly.
Then take ONE of your entrys and click on the "join a group" link and type in Net54. Then when it asks for a password, type in t207 and you're in.

Since my alma maters (Evansville and Boston University) rarely make the Big Dance, I will be rooting for their respective conference champions...the Southern Illinois Salukis from the Missouri Valley and the Albany Great Danes of the powerhouse America East.

Oh by the way the beloved Drexel Dragons who both these numbskulls wanted in the NCAA tourney instead of Arkansas, lost on their home court last night in the first round of the NIT to a team playing their 5th game in 7 days. Marist, West Virginia and Mississippi State who all lost to Arkansas (MSU twice)this year won last night in the opening round. Don't diss my Hawgs!!!!

The whole Dick Vitale act has grown real tired. It was amusing in 1985, not 2007. Same goes for John Madden, Chris Berman and anyone on Sportscenter calling home runs. Anybody else to add to the list?

Watching the ESPN reality show for who was going to be the next broadcaster was a torturous exercise. It was painfult to watch these bozos try to make up cliches and funky phrases to try and sound hip and cool. All they ended up doing was look like blathering idiots.

The group locked once the tourney started, so no more entries can transfered in.

Looks like I am doing a wonderful job of anchoring down the group. Is there a boobie prize for last place?

Let me be the first to say I am having a heaping helping of crow served tomorrow for breakfast after my Hogs stunk up the court against USC tonight. Luckily our coach is about to get the axe and don't be surprised to see either Bill Self or Billy Gillespie wind up in Fayetteville. Rumor is Heath is headed for Minnesota. Good luck Jay
Scot, before you bring up the football game again, I hereby challenge the Trojans to meet Arkansas at the College World Series this year. Other than being the greatest track and field program in the history of the NCAA, currently we shine only at baseball it appears...

I think this first round had the fewest upsets in NCAA history. Only Duke and Notre Dame losing was surprising, and they were only #6 seeds anyway. All four #1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 seeds are still alive. I don't think that has happened before.
