Default Stan Musial Rookie?

Posted By: Richard

Greetings everyone. I am looking to pick up a Stan Musial Rookie. I think the 1948 Bowman is considered by most to be his rookie. Would this be the consesus of the board?
Thanks

Not so.....

The 1947 Bond Bread preceded the 1948 Bowman

Richard:

The 1946 Sears Cardinals P/C & 1946 Propagandas Montiel Cuban card are his earliest individual appearances.

You are correct--while Musial was on other cards pre 1948 due to the limited availability of the cards, 1948 Bowman is considered to be Musials rookie card.

Jim:

The limited availability is what makes the search fun and the feeling of accomplishment even greater when you finally pick one up. I would take that anytime over a mainstream issue. To each his/her own, I guess........

Collect what you like and don't worry about what is generally or not generally accepted as whatever. Phil is right, to each their own. Some people say PCs aren't cards, I love PCs and couldn't care less if they are cards or not - they are PCs. I guess if you have to have the first available image of someone, then we need to start searching for the ultrasound photos of today's stars.

jeff..you are absolutely right. I got out of the pre war rookie hunt a month or so ago because there were cards that 1.) Were so expensive that I knew that i would never get one even if it popped up on mastro/REA/ebay/Net54 BST and/or 2.) So ugly to me that the only reason why i would own it would be because somehow i managed to convince myself that it was a rookie card. Add in the difficulty of defining what a rookie card is and I just threw my hands up and decided to collect the best looking pre war card (in my opinion) for each HOF'er and then focus on rookie cards for post war, where there is a general consensus on an established rookie and the prices wont cost me an arm and a leg.

Phil,

I agree with you. I am just saying in the hobby it is acknowledged that the 48 Bowman Musial is his Rookie Card.
