Not sure if this made that big of a difference. But Rothschild was the first Jewish player in the NHL.

Default 1920's Anonymous Sets

The 1920's Anonymous sets are very hot right now. They contain several Hall of Fame Rookies (I own the Nels Stewart and Bun Cook), and there is a small group of collectors with deep pockets that are trying to complete these sets. To my knowledge, no one has ever completed either the 1925-26 or 1926-27 sets. They are extremely rare.

Even with that said, this was a very high price for the Rothchild card. I thought it would sell for between $600 - $750. None of the collectors that I know who are working on the set won the card, nor were they the underbidder. I have a strong suspicion that it sold so high because 2 people wanted it due to the fact that he was the first Jewish player in the NHL (as previously stated). Would love to know who won the card.

Default bid history

shows two runner ups in the $1300+ range. Agressive bidding has expanded into hockey.
