Default Grading question

I’ve sent this card to SGC twice, and both times it’s come back as Authentic. The first time, I had inadvertently selected the option to just have it encapsulated and authenticated, because well, I’m an idiot. I sent it back for consideration of a numerical grade, but it still popped as Authentic.

I don’t have a lot of experience with Authentic cards, so I was wondering if this card is so fatally flawed that it would not receive a numerical grade if submitted to PSA. I feel like I’ve seen cards with hole punches, missing pieces, etc, receive 1’s, so I don’t have a good grasp of what constitutes Authentic across the two major grading companies.

Thanks in advance for any input!

I am not that familiar with their grading anymore, but don't they have an "AA" authentic altered? If so, them maybe it just didn't meet size requirements and isn't altered?

I've seen cards in much worse shape assigned a numerical grade. Nothing appears very obvious for why they wouldn't assign it a numerical grade.

Here's a really stupid question - when it was re-submitted for a numerical grade, did you pull it from the holder or did you send it back to them explaining that you inadvertently checked the wrong box.

I didn't know they have the option to just "authenticate" a card and not provide a numerical grade. To me, that just seems odd to have that selection available to the submitter.

If you select numeric grade and it doesn't meet size requirements it comes back "MIN".

When did you submit the card the second time? Was it recently, because they started adding the reason for 'only' being deemed authentic, like so...

Thanks for the responses all!

I had apparently selected the “A only option” when submitting initially, and customer service let me know I could resubmit for consideration of a numerical grade. I sent the card back and did not break it out of the holder. This has all happened over the course of the past three weeks.

Bummed that I’ve paid grading fees twice to get the same outcome under different processes, but that’s a result of my own ignorance more than anything else…

I guess the good news is…it’s still authentic!

If you are dying to get a number grade, then I would crack and resubmit.
