What I always found incredible...
DiMaggio drew a walk in the game immediately preceding the 56-game hitting streak. He also walked in the hitless game that ended the streak - then went on another 16-game hitting streak. Adding the two games where he drew walks without getting a base knock, DiMaggio had a staggering on-base streak of 74 consecutive games.

I sent Keltner a photo to be signed about 25 years ago and he returned a nice package with postcards and a letter.
I mentioned that July 17th was my birthday.It was obvious he really enjoyed talking about the game where the streak ended. By the way July 17th is also the day that Ty Cobb and Dizzy Dean died and Lou Boudreau's birthday!
