Default RESOLVED: A vintage (c.1920s) Ken-Wel Lou Gehrig glove sign never existed

Posted By: Joseph

This came up in another post but I thought it might get lost as it's not
in the "headline." This ubiquitous sign, infamous as a fake/fantasy item,
is for sale in SCP/Sotheby's upcoming auction. Btw, it has an easel back:

The question is: has a real, circa 1920s example of this sign EVER existed?

Lou Gehrig signature 1920s model Ken-Wel first baseman gloves existed, but not sure when the first year of production was. The late 1920s model had a buckle back, whereas the early 1930s model had a zipper back.

I believe there were original, genuine versions-- at least I assumed so. There are a lot of modern reprints, or fakes if you want to call them that, easily identified by a metal eyelet (rimmed hole for hanging) near the top.
