Default ?

Looking at the silks, I noticed that my actress silk, which I purchased as a S72-3A, has the exact same back as the 2 baseball silks, which I thought are S74's.

Any idea's on this?

They say Baseball-Actress Series on Satin.

Thanks

Just got out my American Card Catalog.

Burdick gave them separate designations but noted under the S74s that they were issued with S72-3.

Looking through the catalog, I suspect he did this because he seemed to have a thing for keeping different types of subjects separate when he could justify it. On this one I have to disagree given the text you point out on the back - it seems like these should have one designation, not two.

I like the T216-3 Kotton Dooin. That is my favorite of the 5 backs. After consulting with other T216 collectors, I think the no factory Kotton should be re-classified as "Type 1" along with Virginia Extra.

Here are 2 new additions to my T213-3 set. Up to 42/70...The Bridwell is his 1919 "Houston" card, as he was the player/manager that year for the Buffaloes. Glenn Myatt was also on that team.

Has anyone ever seen a T216 Kotton Cigs of Jennings with the "Never Go Out" back that the Gibson card below has?

Val, great cards. Jennings should have all 5 backs. Cards that are found with Virginia Extra should also have the Kotton no factory back. Both are thin paper and were released earlier. Cards that have a MINO back should be found with the other 2 Kotton Backs.

Here are 2 recent T213-1 pick-ups...in pretty nice shape for the set. By the way, I need a Bob Rhoades to complete the T213-1 set. If anyone has one, I will trade generously for it. Rob

Default Another S74 Silks question

Hi folks,

Val showed a 1910-1911 S74 White Steinfeld silk with the Red Sun backing, and Bryan showed a 1910-1911 S74 White Marquard silk with the Red Sun backing.

No one has posted a 1910 Colored silk. These do not have a backing. The Red Sun Tobacco ad is printed on the front of the silk.

According to the Standard Catalog, the White version is slightly smaller than the color version.

Does anyone have one of the Colored versions that they can post?

Default Colored silks

Rick,

The S74 colored silks carry only the Turkey Red and Old Mill brand ads.

Default Hi

Hi Patrick,

I am going by the Standard Catalog, which lists the Red Sun ads for both the Colored and the White S74's. It does state that the Helmar brand is not known to exist on the colored silks.

I hope you are correct, because that would be one less item for me to find for my Louisiana type set.

Rick

Default My Louisiana Type Card List - Updated

This is the Louisiana Type Card list that I have put together. If you look on page 2, you will see that I do not include any of the T215's in this list.

The first section is baseball cards that were printed in Louisiana.

The second section is baseball silks that were printed in Louisiana.

The third section is non sports cards and other sports cards that were printed in Louisiana.

The fourth section contains sets that I do not consider as being a part of a Louisiana type set.

Comments, suggestions, and ridicule are welcome.

Rick

Default Hi Patrick

Hi Patrick, thank you. That is a very interesting thread.

I am going to change my type card list to reflect the theory that the Colored Red Sun silks do not exist.

I don't know if anyone is still making updates to the Standard Catalog, but this would be good information to pass along.

Thanks much! Rick

This is a great thread! The Tinker is a recent pick-up for me, he's ugly, but the rare kinda ugly!

Ooops- just realized the General Baking back is not a Louisiana issue since it isn't the Mother's back...my bad!

This doesn't exactly fit in with this thread, but it is from Louisiana Baseball. I believe this is from mid to late 1950's.

I'm looking for a D327-2 Holsum Bread of WaJo (with the back version that has the words "H. WEIL" close together) - can anyone help?

Default Tango Eggs with back stamp

I was looking at Zach's Louisiana Cards website and I noticed 2 Tango Eggs cards, Cobb and Oakes, with a numbered back stamp.

I am curious about these. Does anyone have a back stamped Tango Eggs card other than Cobb or Oakes?

In a way, the back stamps make sense. The two examples are low grade, like a card that may have been included with a carton of eggs. The 500 or so Tango cards that were discovered several years ago were mostly in decent condition and were probably never issued as premiums with the Eggs. (I am totally just speculating)

The images were stolen (borrowed) from Zach's excellent Louisiana Cards website. https://www.louisianacards.com

Default Another Interesting Player Combo

I picked up this Hoblitzell, Boston Amer., and added it to my Cincinnati version.

The Standard Catalog also shows a Boston Nat. version, even though Hoblitzell never played for the Boston Nat. team.

He played for Cincinnati from 1908 to the mid point of the 1914 season, when he went to the Boston Amer. team, where he stayed through 1918.

Nice one, Andy. I'm not 100% convinced D303 is not, at least in part, a Louisiana issue, like T215...Here's a new T210 Pelican...
