Portlander like a few here...down 0-5 yesterday and got out of a bases loaded jam in late innings today...great series!

I hate to bring up any sour grapes, but has anyone seen the strike zone? Last time I saw it was in the eighth inning.

I thought the umpire was squeezing both pitchers in the later innings and the strike zone shriveled up. Poor job of calling balls and strikes but at least he was consistently bad to both teams.
Everyone will probably be on the 2nd baseman for the errant throw which let in the winning run but let's question the coach for having a catcher playing first base. The kid had his foot in the middle of the base on top of it instead of up against the side. If he had placed his feet the way every first baseman is taught in little league, he could have adjusted, caught the ball, and made the play. The throw wasn't THAT bad. Hurried and off-line, but very catchable.

I agree that it was a questionable decision to put the catcher at first. However, he had started other games at first during the season and had been having some issues behind the plate. The big blunder was the new catcher's decision to swing at a ball with a 1-2 count and a steal of home going down - he obviously missed the sign because no way you swing at that pitch otherwise.

Bob,
I agree completely. I felt really bad for that second baseman, but any decent first baseman should have been able to catch that throw. The three innings before that when UNC had 2 and 3 men on base nearly gave me a heart attack.
