Default 1888 Old Judge cabinet checklist ?????

Posted By: David Bowden

A gentleman gave this to me as a thank you last year. It is a redemption for cabinet cards for Old Judge, I presume. It opens up several times to list all the teams and players available. I have never seen another out there and was curious to see if others have. Any idea of value? What designation card were the slips redeemed for? Any info would be awesome. Thanks
David

You could send off for one of these. I'd be interested in the booklet if you want you ever want to sell it.

Yep, your example was inserted in a pack of 1888 Old Judge cigarettes together with a coupon/slip/certificate. It would take 25 coupons before you could request an Old Judge cabinet card of the player you desire (from the list). The metamorphic cards actually suggest it initially took 30 coupons, then changed to 25 later in the year. By 1889, it only took 20 coupons.

There are three different lists, two in 1888 (differ in size and teams covered) and one in 1889. The 1889 lists seem to be most common.

The last list to auction on eBay was in good condition and fetched around $300. There is an 1889 example that has been offered several times with a four digit "Buy it Now" but no takers.

Best Regards,
Joe Gonsowski

Thank you Joe, that was extremely informative. Anyone have a scan of the list inside?

Thanks for the info so far. I opened it up today to measure and photograph. Was glad to see all creases/folds were solid. The only one that showed any wear at all was the front panel. It measures 2 1/2" by 9 1/2".

David

I once paid a lot of money for one of these. Then I auctioned it off for very little money.

It's a cool item which I wish I had kept.
