Default 1972 Topps - Centered

My fave aesthetic look from the 1970s is 1972. Here is a card I like and this one is centered according to the description. Centered ain't what it used to be..

'72 is an extra challenge, because in addition to just plain centering, you have to worry about tilt / skew / diamond cutting to an extent that you don't have to with other sets. '73 Topps is the same way.

I have a loose 72 set....many came from vending boxes...but even with that, its chock full of miscuts....and off centered cards. I hate diamond cuts (L to R OC or top to bottom OC as long as its not extreme) don't bother me as much. I must have bought/sold/upgraded 8-9 loose Nolan Ryan to get one that I liked.

The centering / tilt problem as a combo seems particularly prevalent in the higher series. Will agree with you on the Nolan Ryan card, I finally got an SGC 7.5 that I’m happy with. Centering and tilt are not 100% perfect, but it’s close enough. The card also has rough cut edges, which some people don’t like but they’ve never bothered me.

Particularly with that #595 card, even examples in super high grade slabs can have noticeable tilt. It’s about enough to drive you nuts.

But Leon, there's no qualifier from PSA so it's centered...

I collect them o/c because that's how I remember pulling them from packs as a kid. Doesn't bother me in the slightest

I think I might have pulled this one from a pack as a kid or acquired it shortly after it was issued, as I have had it forever:

Adam, I did take your advice from another thread on this one:

I did have one as a kid, but I wasn’t born until 5 years after they were issued, so I’m guessing the one I remember from my childhood was from around 1989 or so. Didn’t hang onto it, as I didn’t with many of the vintage cards I came across. We traded quite frequently.

Interesting how the tilt on both of our Clemente's is very similar. Mine's worse OC.

Here are three of my favorite sharp-cornered 1972 cards that I was able to pick up at huge discounts due to the O/C qualifiers 'ruining' them. They look absolutely beautiful to me...
