The enjoyment everyone seems to be getting out of Leon's "You know you are addicted when........ , thread, got me thinking: we rank everything else, why not threads? What's your all-time, all-star line-up of favorite posts/threads? Your least favorite?

My most favorite thread- any where I don't get run over by a bus

Least favorite- any where I get run over by said bus....

Seriously...there have been many informative threads on the board over the years. I most like the ones where we uncover great hobby information about sets that most don't know about. Some of Ted Z's T206 threads are very good too.....

Favorite: NYC dinner thread, because it's become part of Net54 folklore.

I like the threads about Seinfeld and punk rock. The NYC dinner thread was pretty amusing too and I live 3000 miles away.

and not necessarily in order:

1. Ted's posts;
2. It's been awhile, let's meet everyone posts;
3. Show me your...posts;
4. Pick-up posts;
5. Auction outing (of bogus or suspect material) posts.

I don't care for:

1. What is xxxxxx's rookie card posts ( )
2. Grading company pissing match posts;
3. U-Tube posts;
4. Posts that are overly edited. ( again, )

Threads with over 200 posts are usually pretty bad.

Threads were people call each other names are bad (and often over 200 posts).

I like variety, so there's nothing wrong with a variety of topics and styles.

I like Ted's posts -- his research and thoughts on the T-206 set is invaluable.

I enjoy some of Peter Chao's posts. Sometimes when Net 54 gets crazy and words start flying...it is nice to laugh.

I dislike how there are a small, but vocal minority of participants who have very strong opinions about certain topics that they preach about ad naseum. We all know what they think -- we all know what they're going to say, and seeing their 25 posts and replies in a 200-post thread add absolutely nothing to the value of the conversation.

...the research there is better than most of what is written on this Board.

I also like collectors asking intelligent and hard to answer questions about T206.

In general terms -
my favorite threads are the pickup threads.
my least favorite are the ills of the hobby threads.

my personal favorite thread is one I started a year ago (can't believe it is a year ago).
It is my favorite because this community helped me make and shared in my favorite purchase.

A leap of faith in trusting - Steve Murray and Barry Sloate (they did not disappoint). The board shared in my nervousness, the pursuit, the acquisition, and the unveiling.

Pick up posts.
My reading of posts are generally proportional to the time and interest I have on a subject. But no matter how short a time I have to put into net54, the pick up threads are always the first (if only) one I always check out. It's just great to see different cards. More, importantlay, you see what collectors really hold the most dear. Be it a $50,000 or $0.50 item.

.............. not'a say a good ol' grading v. ungrading one t'ain't fun neither ...............

Joe- we met as a result of that thread, and it's funny to read because I sounded so apprehensive. But when you showed me the scan of the postcard, I knew it was something great.

Favorite: any thread where Leon gets hit by a bus

Least: not really a thread, but any post by the family Dorskind.

Favorites:

- Pick ups

- What'd Everyone Get in (recently closed auction), rehashing the auction and people's fortunes, and the requests for winners of specific lots to email people looking for singles.

- NYC Dinner Thread - a classic and maybe the Queen of all Threads

- The thread about not hijacking threads, which was of course immediately hijacked and quickly deteriorated into class warfare. hahahaha.

- I really like the threads that show cards and photos of current people that look similar (one recently started here), and cards of ugliest or funniest or whatever kinds of things.

Least Favorite:

- Class warfare. I actually don't really mind some of the really confrontational threads, but when the fight is about who has how much money and to what effect - those I don't like. Rotting in little shacks, indeed.

- PSA v SGC. Unless something substantial changes with one or the other - or both - I think people are not going to change current opinion so there isn't any point arguing about it. Pointing out fallibilities of the graders is fine, but going Hatfield and McCoy over which is better is pointless.

Ironically, the ones in the middle - neither favorite nor disliked - are those that are the heart of the board. New finds, threads on fakes and alterations, history of cards and the people or both, questions and answers on sets and cards that sometimes contain surprises to everyone, even the threads about genuine problems in the hobby - these are the heart and soul of the board.

Joann
