Default Sad News...lost a member...Chris Stufflestreet

Chris Stufflestreet had a heart attack and passed away suddenly on Wednesday.

Many of you met Chris Stufflestreet at the last Net54 National Dinner. He was a longtime friend of mine and a very active collector, blogger, and baseball card researcher. I met Chris through OBC close to 15 years ago and have traded, sent cards, and corresponded with him all during those years. I met Chris only once in person several years ago at a National and he was fantastic wealth of knowledge and interesting Topps tidbits. He was a great guy and will be sorely missed.

I hate doing this...

Joshua

Sad news. I met Chris at a National some years back and enjoyed his input on this and another board. Condolences to his family and friends.

My sincerest condolences go to his family and friends. I never met Chris but his blogs have been regular reading for me since I got back into the hobby. His passion was evident.

Horrible news. My deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones. Way too young.

I remember getting his email newsletters for the longest time. He was always helpful and willing to share his knowledge.

Default my deepest condolences to the family

I lost my youngest brother last June to cancer at the age of 41. My brother's name was also Chris. There is not a day that I don't think of him. For the family there is nothing as tragic as losing a loved one at such a young age.

My prayers are with the Stufflestreet family,

Joe

Very sad news. RIP Chris. My condolences to the family. And 39 is just way, way too young.

Edited to add....On Chris's "collecting interests" in his public profile on the board I love his answer-

"Low-grade crap not suitable for slabbing"

Chris' self description from some of his blogs -- “Vintage Sportscard Specialist, 1970s music enthusiast, freelance writer, a self-proclaimed know-it-all and an all-around nice guy.”

I completely agree. RIP friend.

I met Chris about eight years ago when I stumbled across his want list on the OBC website. I had some cards he needed so I pulled together a package and mailed them to him. He responded with some stuff I needed and a copy of his baseball cards leaflet. After that, we became friendly through a number of message boards related to the hobby.

We had the opportunity to work together a few times, as Chris wrote some articles for Collector Magazine when I was the publisher. I know he enjoyed writing, and was quite good at it, and we had numerous conversations about writing and our shared love of music (Chris kept several excellent music blogs).

Funny thing: One of Chris' pet peeves was when people misspelled his name. In the first issue of Collector, he wrote an article on 1973 Topps cards, and I was so diligent amount making sure I got "Stufflestreet" right everywhere it was printed, that I neglected to get "Chris" right in one place, spelling it "Chis.". I heard about that for years.

The one thing that I'll always remember about Chris was his love of his daughter. I hardly had a discussion with him where he didn't at some point mention her and talk about what she was up to.

Chris was a good guy and an excellent writer. I saw him in Baltimore at the Net54 dinner and we chatted for a few minutes. Had I known I wasn't going to ever see him again, I certainly would have spent more time. I'll miss him and wish him a safe journey and smooth transition.

Al

Al,

Thanks for sharing that anecdote about Chris and misspelling his last name. I was one of those who caught his "wrath" on another board when I had the misfortune of incorrectly spelling his last name

He was definitely a knowledgeable collector and will be missed. RIP Chris.

Condolences to his family. 39 is young but illness does not respect age. I know from personal experience. Life is definitely not fair.
