Default "AST . . . " ball team postcard. Help w/ ID?

ast f small.jpg
ast b.jpg

Digging through a misc. binder I found this postcard I've held for 20+ years.

As you can see, the postcard was made by photographing an existing PC.

Perhaps someone here has seen the original card.

I can read "AST" on the facing of the jerseys.

According to the list on baseball-reference.com, there have been no pro teams such as Astoria, etc., so this must be a town team.

Any idea from where they hail?

Default team photo

Is it possible the original was a trimmed photo and not a PC?

It looks to me that the name down the front of the jerseys is either 6 or 7 letters, beginning with "Ast" and ending with "a".

Other than that however, I really don't know.

Good luck in your research Bob.

Steve

Edited to add:

I just looked in Googlemaps, and the only Astorias are Astoria, Queens, NY, and Astoria, OR.

I respectfully disagree. The configuration of players in the photo strongly suggests a conga line, originating in Cuba. The conga line didn't make it to the states until until the 1930s. So I am going to have to go with Artemisa, Cuba. A little known fact of Cuban writing in the first part of the twentieth century is that the "r" and the "s" were interchangeable, particularly after the bars closed.

Bob,
Definitely Asoria, OR...here is a link to another photo with the same uniforms...

http://www.sportingoregon.com/p24075...ee34#h105d5165

From there, you can scroll through some other photos of this team and even some identifications of players...

Hope this helps.

Joshua
