For postcards, there is also a generic white one featuring a woman by the pool. I'm not sure about the date but I did find the same one from another Holiday Inn that has a postmark on it from the 1960s. I think there is a chance your unpostmarked one was produced in the 1960s but still trying to confirm.

For matchbooks, there is a black one featuring a sign--it looks just like the generic postcard you pictured. The back mentions something about a computer, so likely from after Mantle's involvement. The white Holiday Feeling one was the one I was speculating about--haven't seen one but assumed it existed. I need one if you ever come across one--they are likely way after Mantle's involvement but I'm a completionist and they are never more than a couple dollars. I don't think I've seen the brown or beige but will have to keep an eye out for them.

It's an awesome collection.

Nice pickups! The Transogram boxes are getting much more difficult to find with PSA now grading the disassembled ones.

Thanks, fellas. Never seen that Rawlings before; learn something new every day— especially about collecting The Mick.

Those Venezuelans are tough; I can feel them calling me one day, down the line.

I did not think I could get close to the high of finding the 51B and the 57T centered. Yet I was pretty pumped about this signed 1957; my expectations were managed in terms of a signed '57— between the card's usual focus and centering issues, and then Mick's tendency to sign the card vertically, across his body from head to toe. Was surprised to see a nice sig, horizontally placed, on a card with a crisp image.

Nice cards Matt. Especially the signed 59 and 65. I'm sorry I didn't see them first.

Here's a good look at one of the three Gem Mint 52 Mantle's, this one has a slight tilt.

Grabbed three new ones (to me) for my Mantle PSA collection at the Small Traditions auction last night. Put in some bids before going to bed and they held up. Bid on about 7 other auctions that weren't highest, but mostly 2nd place.

Seems like the 1960 Nu-Cards are much rarer than the 1961s, but they didn't cost much.
1960 #22 PSA POP of 72. 1961 #422 POP of 308.
1960 #50 POP of 60. 1961 #450 POP of 284. For $80 for both including BP, not too shabby. And SmallTraditions shipping/insurance was very reasonable.

The 1960 ones are definitely rarer and, at least in my mind, much cooler. Great pickups. It was a fun auction to watch. Surprised to see some of the prices.

Picked up this sweet Mantle starting lineup figure in a charity shop. New in the box for $7, so how could I say no.

After being out of vintage card collecting for awhile and focusing on autos, I'm thrilled to now have this. I almost got one a few years ago when they were going for half what they are now, but I'm very happy with this example especially for the grade.

COMC has been having their annual Spring Cleaning sale all week, so I've been picking up more Mantles I need or that could be upgrades for my Master Set:

Didn't realize the '60 Nu-cards were so large until I got them in hand. Yep, I am very pleased with that purchase. Packing was quick and priced reasonably!

Nice MacBoy decal. I've got one as well in my stack of oversized cards to send in for grading for the set registry. Looks clean.

1966-67 Bazooka

1962 Bazooka

Bowdoin College Mickey Mantle model bat

All three pickups from Saco River Auction this afternoon. Bought a bunch of other stuff; prices seemed very reasonable.

Only 9 graded higher makes it even more rare in my book.

Great pick up on the Mantle bat....I have an identical bat, except it is from Springfield College (MA). Any ideas on what year your new bat is from?

Not really a bat guy (although I did pick up a Ruth college bat in the same auction), but I would say late 50s because of the autograph? Maybe early 60s?

Default 59 Mantle

Trying to complete a mid-grade 50s base Mantle run. Its going to take a while for some of the early 50s cards but ambition is good, right? Happy to add this 1959 Topps example. Great color and centering.

Grabbed both these cards for the same amount as the snipe bid I set for just one.

Picked up a new version of the Holiday Inn matchbook cover with Mantle looking left over his shoulder. The latest pick-up is the one in the center. It is a much darker brown than the other brown ones. It is also slightly smaller at 4.9 mm versus 5.1 mm for the second from the top and 5 mm for the other three. If anyone has one that is different from the five I've posted, I would appreciate hearing about it. It helps to know what I need to be on the look out for.

They look great all together like that. That is all I have of him facing that direction. I have three variations facing the other direction--one with a white background around his face, one with an off white background, and one with blue matches. Then, although not an interest to you as I know its not in your collecting realm, four generic ones that may likely postdate his ownership a bit.

Chris, thanks for reminding me about the blue matches. I had forgotten that you had mentioned them before. I need to add them to my list of things to look for before I forget again.

Nice pickup Mike. Your full facing right green/black is beautiful!
I had the facing left with light brown but not the right.

The smaller size is interesting... no signs of trimming? Is the text the same size?

Feel free to update this "playing years" list if you have or know of any others

Ben, thanks for posting the list of different match book covers. I have four of the Country Cookin' that you have listed ... looks like I need four more. I only have one of the Yoo-Hoo covers but was aware of the other variations.

I picked up one of these last month but the centering on this one is better. I got this one during the last 20% off eBay promotion.

The smaller size is interesting... no signs of trimming? Is the text the same size?

Feel free to update this "playing years" list if you have or know of any others
Hi Ben, the seller had two of the same variation. I managed to grab one as well and mine was also a little smaller than the prior ones I've purchased. No signs of trimming on mine and I can't think of a good reason they would have been trimmed anyway.

Picked up another rare one off the Master Set Registry. Used the 10% off coupon to save some bucks.

Great card John and you got that one for a terrific price. The 1960s are incredibly rare and, for some reason, there just happens to be a few for sale now--I looked for roughly two years before purchasing my first one and didn't see a single one for sale during that time.

Yeah, may be the definition of POOR, but the image is pretty clear and there's no paper loss on the back.

It's awesome you were able to pick that one up. But, on a side note, don't you find it pretty funny that a card graded a 1 would get a qualifier? You'd think if a card was labeled a single step higher than 'authentic,' the full gamut of cardboard-based problems would simply be implied. And if the rule of thumb is that a card with a qualifier lowers the 'perceived grade' by 2 points, you now have a card graded a -1.

PSA Auths used to count as 0.5 points in the standings, but AUTH, 1(Q), 1, and 2(Q) all count as PSA 1 for the set registry based on changes they made last year. Oddly enough, FAIR 1.5(Q) is still worth 1.5. 3(Q) now is worth 2 points, while 4 and up with qualifiers equal a two-grade drop.

Default Boo

Mailday - 64 Rawlings Box full panel pickup.
The kid that owned the glove/box was clearly a Mick fan but not that keen on Tom Tresh. BOO!
