Hate to tell you but both the Wagner and the Ruth ball are fakes. (The Ruth ball is a bad, bad, bad fake). Rest easy tonight now.

I'm not trying to be mean but you want the opinion. I own 7 Ruth's right now, and have owned over 30 in my life - I feel your ball is fake. I'm not accusing you of anything - just my opinion.

I agree..but that Wagner is not a reprint even from the 70's. It's a new reprint, I say this because it is a reprint of the uncut proof sheet that sold in 2002...I say this because of its blank back and it has the same exact creases as the proof. I dont know about right now but these reprint sheets used to alawys be on ebay and it was the same exact card you have.

The ball was said to be a 1920's to 1930's because of the stitching. I think the person who authenticated it is Lee Strickler or Strickland. Have you heard of him?

Oh well, thanks for your opinions. Maybe it was a late april's fool joke by my dad with the card.

I feel bad for you. It must have cost a pretty penny to get Jacques Cousteau to photograph that Wagner for you.

uncut strip of 5 (that's the one you're talking about isn't it?). Either Verkman or Wheat bought it at the Halper auction, and tried to turn a big profit on it...neat strip. The color on the Wagner background looks like some kid did it with a paint set, it's so unsubtle. As
for the font, or details of the picture (as David Cycleback pointed out)--who can tell?

It must be a reprint then because my dad has the card. The picture quality is not turning out good because my father is so technically illiterate he can't operate a digital camera. It's frustrating living two hours away from him. The ball was authenticated by a "professional" hmm... I am now concerned about his opinion because of one of your own opinions on it. His name is Lon Strickler. http://www.stricklerstars.com/ Does this guy seem legit or is he just trying to make a buck.

When I was in college and low on money, I did what all poor college students did-- I moved on to a cheaper beer.

The Honus looks to be cut from the proof strip reprint. I have a reprint of it here and it's the same creasing, etc.

This is a blatant fake cut off of a reprint of the strip Steve Verkman sold a few years back. The owner made reprints of the strip and sells them on ebay, the crease is exact. Dan.

Your Dad found this in a scrapbook he inherited 30 years ago, but that scrapbook contains a modern fake Wagner card? Why would your Dad pull such a hoax on you? Duane, have you been an evil child?

I know that K Whitmore of Columbus lurks here and this might be him/her dicking around with us. I wouldn't waste any more time with this thread....

If true, not a bad place to to hone your tale telling skills and see how good the fakes are that you are creating.
This is a photoshopped card I created from a beat up version I have in my collection. Just think what a dedicated con artist could do.
