Default Does SGC downgrade if card a bit small?

I posed this question earlier and didn't get an answer but now will try again, after seeing this card at eBay. I have similar CJ card that appears for all the world to be a 5 or 6 but measures out maybe 1/16 or 1/32 narrow. SGC did not find it trimmed, I guess, but gave it 3.5 grade. Now see link, this seems to be same case with the Chase card here, although possibly it got docked for color being a bit off. Whatever the case with this card: Does this seem to be their policy or not? I thought there were allowable limits that would not affect grade--and if not within them would get an Auth or Trimmed?

I would say that SGC downgraded the card on ebay (which I've attached here) due to the staining/fading on the card. Obviously, the coloring on the card is not that of the typical Cracker Jack.

There also appears to be a light crease or wrinkle running from Chase's left ear to the border.

I have never known SGC to downgrade a card due to it being smaller. I have had a card rejected outright for failing to meet minimum size, which is how they classify it (instead of trimmed or altered), but not downgraded. I collect m101-4s and 5s, which can vary in size, and have had them graded in a variety of sizes, all properly to my eye.

I once owned a CJ Barry that was graded SCG 60 that looked to me like a 84 nm. They pointed out that the card had a slight bend down near the bottom--not a wrinkle or anything that affected the paper--just a small distortion that might be noticed if you laid the card flat. They can be tough on these for sure.

The Barry is absolutely gorgeous. I'm amazed it wasn't at least NM, too.
Their argument for the downgrade is a bit of an unnecessary reach, IMHO.
All the best, Todd

Thanks Barry, all the best to you as well. Alas, the beauty of that CJ Barry is now best beheld by its current owner, although I had it for more than a decade and thus do not feel cheated in my opportunity to enjoy it.

I have had cards grade like that Barry above and have shaken my head too. That is when we buy the card and throw out the avg market prices for the grade. I too don't believe SGC would normally downgrade for a short card but they might reject it for not meeting minimum size requirements (as has been stated).
