Frank

Here is my update.

Set #1 - 262
Set# 2 - 70

Recounting my T206s made me realize I need to focus more on my set than the miscuts/freak T206s. I've picked up close to a dozen T206s since my last post, yet I only added 2 to my number.

Monster Number, and intriguing idea. Thanks for posting it.

1000 is a intrinsically pleasing maximum number; it's like batting a thousand. I agree with that back there about not counting zero, 1 to 1000 is 1000 possibilities, 0 to 1000 is 1001 possibilities. If zero were to count, then everyone on the planet would have a set, most of them zero sets... Methinks we begin the count at one, like Brother Maynard read from The Book of Armaments, Chapter 2...

Would a fellow with 80 common cards swap them for a Plank? Yes. Then the Plank should count more than 80, the commons less than 1, or both. Similarly, would someone swap 240 commons far a Wagner? Oh, Yes. Then that should be adjusted, too. And aside from dollar value, the Demmitt and O'Hara cards would limit the number of 1000 sets, they should have a bit of weight, too.

I figure this process is way too far along for folks to readily accept a recalibration of the process. But it is justified, don't you think?

I'll be Frank, Frank. The idea was to top out at 1000, reward the big four and keep it simple enough so that 85% of the people on this board could compute their monster number accurately in less than 48 hours.

Wow, you ARE Frank! The "Frank"ness of this board is astounding. But the "Frankest" Frank isn't even participating!

I like the number 1,000, but you can come up with that number easily by giving some of the variations weight, without straining anyone's brains.

Here's some PSA pop numbers:

Doyle - 10
Wagner - 32
Plank - 64
Magie - 92
O'Hara St. Louis - 113
Demmitt St. Louis - 125
Lundgren KC - 162
Dahlen Brooklyn - 177
Brown Washington - 184
Lundgren Chicago - 187
Smith Chicago and Boston - 188
Elberfeld Washington - 193
Dahlen Boston - 198
Kleinow Boston - 237
Cobb Green - 550

Excuse me, but thou err'est. Brother Maynard (Eric Idle) did not read from The Book of Armaments. He stood to the left of the reader (Michael Palin):

Right you are, Craig. Brother Maynard announced the chapter and verse, but he was not the lector. As best as I can tell, it was "Brother Maynard's Brother" that did the reading, Michael Palin, as you said. Thanks!!!

Well, finally another piece of the Monster found its way to Boca. That makes an MN of 492.9. From here on out it is going to take as much luck as money. Only the Biggest Dawgs remain. Did I tell you about my new hobby? I drive behind Brinks trucks, hoping for the perfect combination of bump in the road and faulty truck door latch

Default first time MN thread poster

First time I have posted on this thread. My MN is 133 (with more interest these days on there cousin T205s).

Slow and steady--trying to collect either poses I like or portraits that highlight the beautiful print jobs from that era.

I am now up to 254 - please update whenever you do the next one...thanks!

I haven't posted any photos to date, yet, but just added about 135 non-duplicate cards to my collection, acquiring a large lot. Purchased these as a lot advertised as being in mostly Poor-Fair condition. The cool thing was that about a 20 or so were in very nice shape (several even crease-free) minus having some glued paper stuck to the back.

Did a soaking and was extremely pleased with the results, so I wanted to show a few here. I have about 8-10 that came out this clean. From P-F to VG IMO. Several others moved up a grade or are, at the very least, much more desirable.

Please downgrade my first set to 150. Also, I have now started a Polar Bear only set. Please mark me down for Set #2 (PB), at a whopping 8.

This seems like a good place to introduce myself, my name is Greg and I started my lifelong dream of collecting the T206 set last year. My monster number is 119 right now and 15 duplicates with different backs. I started off collecting them raw but some trimmed ones I've gotten off of eBay has led me to buying more and more graded, 19 of them are slabbed now. I've been reading a lot of posts here and have been blown away by how helpful and knowledgeable this community is. Thanks.

Welcome aboard Jayhawk! You may wanna post an intro as its own thread here on the main board, more people will see ya that way.
I like the raw cards too but I am always afraid they are tampered with too so I only pick up the cheaper rougher raw cards.

Been about a month since my last update request, so why not - please bump to 326 whenever you get a chance.

Crappy picture, but I picked up both Bender action cards recently. Both are low grade but the Polar Bear presents pretty well for a 1.

Making good progress considering I didn't get my first T206 until early March. Most are lower grade (P-G) but proud of the partial set I've built so far.

Picked up an EPDG Wilhelm from a board member. Bump me up to 29, please.

On another note, I wonder how long before the shill list becomes more viewed than this post.

Default T206's

I own 6 T206 cards. Gibson, McLean, Ford, Clarke, Randall, Congalton.

Also, I donated a Gibson to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. So, they're at 1, as far as I know.

Cheers, Marty

I have moved up the list a bit since my last report and now stand at 350 (67.9%). I still have a number of easier cards to acquire, but eventually I'm going to have to focus on the heavy hitters to improve.

Speaking of which, I did manage a huge score on ebay recently. I will post pictures when I get it back from the grader...

I guess nearly 4 years ago I was at 4, and with the addition of a Bat Off Cobb I'm at a whopping 5.
