Default Photos used for cards

It's always interesting to see the photos that were either used for baseball cards or depict the same images. Here is a recent pick up....anyone else? (the card is only for comparison, I don't own it)

Default Cool!

Leon...:I am amazed that Lou held that awkward pose for long enough to have the spectators in the back of your photo shooed out of the frame to allow the exhibit card image to be captured!

Default N167

I believe this photo is the basis for a N167 card. Esterbrook's demise is quite a story.

This has become a very competitive niche sector of the hobby.

Note; The DiMaggio Card is NOT mine, but the other three items are.

Amazing stuff guys!!! I love this kinda of stuff. I have several but here is my favorite. It was bought years ago with both exhibit cards I then added the E card and had it framed. It still needs to be reset in the frame again but I didn't want the framer to use anything with adhesive. Anyways I will get the others I have but this is my favorite. If you look close you can see the marks they used when they cropped to photo for the cards final shot. Who new there was a catcher there.

Many if not all of mine will be in the next Legendary Auction. The Gehrig is at PSA getting authenticated. I hope everyone bids a lot. They are some really neat photos.

If you look closely, you can see he rolled his dress shirt sleeves up under his jersey...from the Boston Herald archives.

Here's what Sandy Koufax called the biggest World Series game of his career. It set the tone for the 4 game beatdown that the Dodgers inflected on the Bombers. This series was a "get even" series as the boys in blue, blew the deflated Yanks right out of the House that Ruth built!

The photo has become an iconic image in the Sports World of Baseball Card Collecting Baby Boomers (like most everyone here).

Interesting that an 1895 image is used on a 20th century card.

So here's a question: what process do you guys follow to match up a photo to a card? By that I mean, are you familiar enough with the card images that, when you happen upon the corresponding photo, you recognize it immediately? Or do you see a likely photo, and then go looking through cards for that player to make the match? Or is it something more serendipitous and in-between? Just curious as to how others go about it.

Lance

I'm not much into the photos, but I do pick one up every now & then. For me, sometimes I see a photo & just know I've seen the image somewhere else. So then I start looking at the player's cards. I've had the chance to buy a few others in the past, but didn't want to spend a lot and was outbid. They weren't real big stars like some of the other photos posted so far.

When I saw the Dickey though, it kinda stood out like a sore thumb.
