Default I was wondering if anyone new about old Golf clubs...

Posted By: Mark T

I have 2 here that were given to me when my wife's uncle died in 1993. They are wood handled with leather grips. Only 1 has markings on it and reads Medium Lie on the bottom and reads STANDARD GOLF SUNDERLAND ENGLAND 179007.

The other one looks to be a putter.

thanks for all and any help.

Old Golf Clubs are really hit or miss. Without knowing specifics, your have two old Mallet Head Putters which date to right after the turn of the century (one has a date of 1907 on the head that I can see). They are similar in design to the famous "Schenectady Putter" which was so popular in 1903 that everybody rushed to copy the mallet head design. Before ebay you could get $500 for a Schenectady but now the price is more along the $150-$250 range depending on condition. My guess would be that your clubs are worth somewhere in the $100 to $150 each vicinity depending on condition. I could be way off as there might be some specific rarity with one of these or something, but that is a straight line estimate of clubs from this origin and make.

The first one is done by William Mills(Standard, Sunderland), who was known for making aluminum copies of famous putters and clubs. The second one was imported to the US by the Harry Lee Company of New York for resale in one of his stores. He used the acorn marking from 1908-1930.

I agree with the above here, both are collected but only worth about 200.00 for the pair. There are just so many variations of golf clubs out there. I seem to find them often and just never know what to buy so I select American made clubs. The clubs from England and Scotland are endless, but some are very valuable so I still look around.

Thank you Paul, Rhys, Jimmy... I would be willing to sell these if anyone is interested. I can get more scans if needed.

There are a few scrapes on one of the shafts but overall they are in great shape.

Thanks again...
