Default Lucky No. 13

A big thank-you to Jon for the heads-up that this was a BIN on eBay. This front-back combo has been an elusive one for me, and it marks the 13th different back with the Lajoie/bat front that I've been able to land. (Side note: I wish all PSA 2's looked like this.)

2 for my small but growing collection:

I just think the Donovan cards looks amazing even if not one of the more popular players of the era

I don't believe SGC would make that mistake. Especially on a high grade card which was, I would assume, highly scrutinized.

A couple pickups from the Shriners show a few weeks ago. The Hooper has the extra special glue from the price tag on the case......

I hope he was kidding. Thanks for all the compliments guys. Sox that is a great cabinet. Have you identified the player or team? Really great photo quality.

I have not identified the player, but believe the team to be Holy Cross. It appears to be late 1800's.....

A Holy Grail for me. Took about 30 seconds of negotiation to get it done. Thanks, Leon.

I always thought negotiations for Rose PCs require a minimum of two weeks, regardless of the parties involved.

Default Rose PC of Cobb

For the record I really did want to keep that card, Jeff. Unfortunately the tax man cometh....and I didn't want to fret anymore about paying them. As most know my mantra is usually "if I can only have one, I like to have a nice one",......and that would have been the 1 PC I would have kept. With my restaurants still plaguing me (20k this month) I had no choice. The chips just didn't fall my way this time. I am glad it went to a die hard Cobb collector. regards

I had about 2 more mos. but didn't want to sweat it. Also, since postcards aren't my niche I made a quicker decision. Had this been a T231 or another regular type card, I would have disliked it even more and taken longer to make the decision. I hate big bills (the kind you have to pay, not 100 dollar bills ) hanging over my head.

If you can find a buyer within a week, we might have a Net54 first: the same card posted three different times in one month's pick-up thread.

An underrated PC in terms of scarcity (in my opinion, but then again, I know not about baseball cards -- or postcards):

Yes, it is really unbelievable that a board member could buy something and post it, only to have another board member buy it, and what's more, even show it!!!! WOWEE, man-o-man, someone stop the merry go round.........this is all too much for me .

Not sure if anyone had responded to this yet, but I believe you can specify whether to not permit a qualifier. In that case, PSA might downgrade the number by as much as 2 points. However, with crossovers you can specify a minimum grade. So if it's important enough for you to convert a SGC into a PSA, then you can protect yourself with the grade as long as you're willing to chance the submission fee.

I've read somewhere in the past that the MC (and MK) qualifiers can't be withheld by request. Is this not the case?

From the FAQ on PSA's website:
Q: Can I request “No Qualifiers” on my submission?
A: You can make this request and it could mean that the original grade may lower. Also, while you may request no qualifiers on your submission, it is up to the discretion of our graders to determine if the qualifier can be removed. The qualifier can not be left off in all instances and no refund will be given if we determine that we can not remove the qualifier.

My understanding is that if the qualifier is egregious, then they can't ignore it simply by demoting the overall grade (eg, a miscut that cuts off part of the card's main image or includes a large proportion of another card, or a strongly visible stamp on the back of a card), but that more subtle ones (eg an OC qualifier) might be able to be avoided by demoting the card's overall grade.

btw, gorgeous Johnson Hindu.
