Default T209 (color) Factory overprint stamp

Posted By: Joe Jones

I just opened this in the mail today from Goodwin. They do not provide back scans in their auctions so I didnt expect to see a factory stamp on the back of this card. Has anyone else seen this on a T209 color? I think it is interesting. (I am sorry if the scan is large, I just wanted the stamp to be legible)

Hi Joe,
Yes, I have 2 T209's with the overprint, and our "Mod Dude" has one too.
Be well Brian

One of my three has a factory overstamp, same district and all, but I have only seen 2-3 others, at most. I would say they are scarce with the overstamp, from what I have seen. I like them too and think they add character. That's why I kept one .

Thanks for the reply. Why do you think they are stamped?

Hi Joe,
I don't know, but they did print the Factory at the bottom of the series 2 cards, so maybe somebody figured that out at the end of the First series run. Just a guess...... Be well Brian

PS To be honest, I never even noticied the overprint until I bought one from Leon a few months ago by accident.

Joe- Only conjecture on my part but maybe there was a law that said every pack of cigarettes had to have that type stamp on it. Since these cards were going in them anyway it might be easier to stamp them than the pack? Just a guess...if anyone knows the real answer I hope they chime in.

Hi Joe,

I don't have any with the stamp, but I think they're more interesting with it on there.

The fact that there seem to be far less stamped might have something to do with the way the cards were sorted/prepared after the printing process.

Perhaps, the cards were cut and stacked with only the bottom card of each stack receiving the stamp to identify the factory.

Just an idea.

Anyways, nice card.

Rob
