Default Scarcity of 1895 N300 Mayo VS 1887 N-28 Allen & Ginter

Posted By: Richard

Greetings fellow collectors, I would like to get some opinions on the scarcity of N300 Mayo VS the 1887 N28 Allen & Ginter set. In my opinion, I think the 1895 N300 Mayo's are scarcer in terms of numbers. I checked the sgc population reports and far less N300's have been slabbed. Also, in monitoring ebay auctions for the past several years far fewer N300 have been sold compared to N-28. I would love to hear more thoughts, opinions, facts on this subject.
Thank You

Default Scarcity of 1895 N300 Mayo VS 1887 N-28 Allen & Ginter

That's an interesting comparison. Without hijacking the thread you could include a few more not so scarce 19th century issues such as N29 and N162. That would make it a very interesting comparison. N28 would easily be the easiest of these issues to find. The N300s, as you mentioned, are far tougher in comparison to find than the N28s.

I agree that this is a very interesting subject, and rarity by condition is an issue too, in that N300s often are severely trimmed. Id like to see e107s thrown in the comparison as a control.

In theory, this type of analysis can be accomplished in minutes by Ted G. or Mr. Bresdo's programs. I wonder what they can do in fact. I have not yet been able to get hooked up with Bob B.'s program (due to my own fault). But that will change next week, I believe.
