Default Topps promotional sample? Sporting News?

Hi,

Does anyone know anything about this "Topps promotional sample"? Also labeled the Sporting news? Frint looks identical to the 1965 Clemente, but the size is tiny. Like 1/8th the size of a regular 1965 Topps Clemente.

I also know of a 1952 Topps Virgil Trucks that is similar to this that is owned by a non-board member.

I've never seen these before, so not really sure what these are.

Cheers,
Patrick

If the size of the card is 1 3/8 by 2 7/8 it is most likely a fake. In 1985 Topps produced a book with all there cards pictured from 1951-1985. If you search in the Standard Catalog of Baseball someone had produced some very similar to those in the 1962 style. They cut the pictures from the book pasted them to cardboard and then stamped them as samples. Brett

If you have it, see page 387 of the SCD 2011 Standard Catalog. They are discussed there as fakes, with a 62 Topps Mantle pictured. Or, see post 5 in the 2nd Bowman TV Ad back thread here.

Pictures cut from Topps Surf books and pasted to backs saying they are promo cards or prototypes. They show up on ebay. I bought a couple to have as examples, but they are fakes
