Default What Day was "Frank Chance Day"

Posted By: Prewarsports

I recently purchased a stack of photos from the 1910's. They were all taken during the same game, but one of the pictures has them setting up the gigantic floral arrangement on the field for "Frank Chance Day". Does anyone know when this game took place and who the opponants were, etc. Any help would allow me to identify every player in photo most likely. I can read that it says New York Americans 1915 on the wreath, but I can not determine through my own research what day the game was on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the other pictures from the same day. They are pretty cool because they are New York Yankees photos and there are some great shots of Hilltop Park and the one with the city skyline in the background is great. I did not re-scan the Chance Day photo, there are 7 total.

I also scanned some other pictures I got in the same group. They are circa late 1920's Babe Ruth and Cristy Walsh barnstorming photos in California. There were (10) of those but I scanned 6. Babe is in the upper left corner, and the one with the car is neat because it says, "Babe Ruths Private Car" on the window. I dont know anything about this barnstorming tour either so perhaps people can identify the year or the tour of these as well.

I will probably be throwing these on ebay and wanted to get the items discriptions right which why I posted them.

Thanks Rhys. Are you going to put them on seperately or as a lot?

The Ruth photos as one and the Chance photos seperate. Only one picture shows Ruth's face so the rest mostly serve as provenance for the front photo but there is still some cool shots of kids mobbing his car, and one kid climbing up a flagpole to get a better shot at the Babe etc.

He must have been honored twice. It is hard to see from my scan, but the floral arrangement from top to bottom says,

"----less(?) Frank L. Chance, The Peerless Leader, New York Americans 1915".

He managed New York from 1913-1914 and so I think this was probably a celebration for him after he left New York for the PCL. The 1913 Frank Chance day was for leaving Chicago I believe.
