Ellis really turned his life around,he was a long time drug counselor and its a shame that he is known for that. He had a pretty good career that gets overlooked, its not easy to get 138 major league wins in just 12 years |

Doc was one of my favorites as a kid. I remember seeing him at a hotel in Anaheim when he played with the Yankees in about 1975. I was with a couple other kids and we approached him for an autograph. Just then, a gruff security guard stepped in front of us and told us to leave. Doc then steps up to the security guard, pokes his finger in the guy's chest, and says in no uncertain terms, "Don't mess with these guys ... they're my friends." |

Take a different approach. I regard the Ebay Singles Pre-1930 Buy-It-Now only search as a portal into a virtual card museum. They're not really for sale at those prices, they just have to put a price on them in order to "display" them on ebay. |

My favorite Dock Ellis story is the time in the 70's when for some reason or other he decided to bean every Cincinatti player he faced. He plunked the first three but Tony Perez managed to dodge four pitches for a walk. After the next pitch just missed Johnny Bench's head Danny Murtaugh removed Dock from the game. Sounds like the no-hit game may not have been the only time he was high on the mound. |
