Default T206 Green Cobb - Why OC?

Posted By: JimB

Have others noticed that a large percentage of T206 Green Cobbs are OC top to bottom? Any theories about why? Was it perhaps on the top row of a sheet?

Ted,
You may be onto something here. Mine is a Piedmont 150 too, as is Cat's posted in the thread on T206 backs.

sheet position on the bottom edge would explain it. IF they were from a horizontal strip, the cutting process was off at the beginning and continued to cut each OC

Not trying to hijack - maybe related - but I have noticed that Chesbro's also seem to be OC T/B. With Chesbro, it's often the bottom border that is smaller and the name either crowds the border or is sometimes slightly off completely.

I have no clue about which backs are like that, or which Chesbro even comes with. Just have noticed that there seem to be a lot with small bottom borders.

The centering looks pretty good on this one. Maybe a little more border on top. edited for spelling.

Sweet Cap 150/25. Pretty well centered but cut is slightly uneven.

. . . or does the length of Joe's SCG-70 Cobb (Green background) seem unusually long, compared to the other examples with ample bottom borders posted? To me, the bottom border of Joe's example is very similar to Rob. L's and Scot Reader's examples, but the upper border is considerably larger. I realize there is some variation in the cut size on T206 cards, but Joe's almost seems excessive. Regardless, it's still a beautiful card. Maybe it's time for me to get those eyeglasses my wife has been suggesting for all these years.

Joe's example is definitely taller. A small percentage of T206s were produced that way.

Just scanned a bunch of Green Cobb's from various sources. All 5 O/C (to the top border) are Piedmont 150
cards. All the centered Cobb's are either Piedmont 350, Sovereign, and Sweet Caporal. Therefore, my initial
observation with my Piedmont 150 green Cobb appears to be a consistent pattern.

Incidently....BEWARE....there is a "fake" Green Cobb with a NO-NO Tolstoi back on Ebay (lot #120132312536)

Why the low grade on yours? Back damage or something. That is sharp looking for the grade.

Dave, the card does have glue on the back. As you can see it is almost undetectable unless you tilt the card at an angle under bright light. Even then it is still hard to see. I have already been "encouraged" by several people to crack the card out and try to get the glue removed. It is easily an high end 4 with out the glue. But it will remain a 2 since I'm completely happy as it stands.
