All you have to do is ask Allan (sic) Rosen! He was able to correctly tell this eBay seller about the green background Cobb in the E92 set and give a price estimate. Since he also publishes a price guide, without a doubt he is the best and most knowledgeable authority there is. The seller is even able to provide written documenttation from Rosen that this card is real.
Wow, it took me all of .25 seconds to look at the card and note that it is a fake Cobb with a T206 front and Crofts Candy back and not even a good fake Cobb at that. Wrong color, wrong type set, etc, etc.
Maybe I should have my own price guide

anyone else notice that scammers never seem to be able to spell guarantee.
And, of course, they always emphasize "satisfaction gauranteed." Or somesuch.

I will be interested in hearing the results of his carbon dating at Gonzaga since Gonzaga does not have a carbon dating lab. One of the few labs for this in the country is at Univ. of Arizona. This is where most archeologists send their materials.

P.S. I love the grammar of these scam artists. He "excepts" paypal. What does he mean by that?

"The seller ended this listing early because the item was lost or broken."

What does that mean?

Too bad, because according to the scan, this was the ultra rare horizontal version of the T206 green portrait Cobb with the Crofts Candy back.

What is next? An E95 Cobb with an Uzit back?

A T217 Mono with a Mino back?

A blank back Cullivan's Fireside?

I wonder if Beckett can get out of their deal with Rosen?

Beyond that he obviously hasn't had it carbon dated, that he says that it is carbon datd has been makes it fraud. He says at the end, "This is a binding contract" but has put information in the contract that he knows is false. The fact that he puts this claim in print on a pubic forum for thousands of people to read shows what an idiot he is. When another seller says "I am not an expert so am offering this as an unauthenticated reprint," at least he can argue with a smidgen of credibility that he was ignorant at the time of sale and didn't know what he was doing. When you claim something was carbon dated at Gonzaga University at the official papers say the card is 100% 1910, it's hard to later claim "Oh yeah, I forgot. I meant to get it carbon dated, but had to cancel at the last minute so I could pick up my daughter at school. My mistake."

Ok, maybe this is not quite as funny as the carbon dating, but when i saw this today, I almost died laughing... Up for auction here is a very old tail rudder off of a WWI era plane - 70+ years old. In fact, this piece is so old, the seller would not be surprised if it came off of an 1800's airplane... check it out . After looking at it, please call your local elementary school and inform them that the Wright Brothers are frauds; aviation began a decade before they took to the skies of Kitty Hawk.

The disturbing thing about the rudder item, is I live in the same community as the seller supposedly does. And our state prides itself on a highly educated group of people ?

I know where you can get carbon dating done for less than the cost of getting your card slabbed. Too bad these idiots don't realize that if you carbon date a card it becomes trimmed/altered and can no longer be slabbed. The other thing I find laughable is that they paid per painting so that they could check each one for hidden cards. You gotta live the stories these fools come up with.

I think we're missing the subtle "double-speak". He only said that Rosen says a card like this would go for $3500. He doesn't quite say that Rosen was referring to THIS particular card. So Rosen's statement, may, in fact, be accurate. Go figure.

Carbon dating has its uses, but dating a 20th century paper item isn't one of them. Dating a baseball card from 1910 based on it's carbon-14 content is like measuring the length of your couch with your car's odometer. It's just the wrong tool for the job.

what are you talking about? I always measure the length of my couch with my car's odometer.

The whole carbon dating thing is particularly funny - even assuming you could do it without damaging/altering the card in any way, last time I checked carbon dating wasnt exactly an exact science. Yes, it can tell you generally how old some thing is - but certainly not to the year.

Ive come up with my own method of dating cards - please bare with me:

Since cards are made out of cardboard and cardboard is made from paper and paper comes from trees, Ive begun cutting my cards in half and counting how many rings I see. What do you think?

But you have to admit these sellers come up with some pretty amazing stories. They are getting better at it even if they can neither spell nor construct a complete sentence.

Response from the seller:

<<I ended the auction immediately upon reading youre email. We just tested the paper with the carbon dating testing as we thought that would be sufficient. Oh well, back to the drawing board and thank you for being honest and not swaring and for being proffessional!>>

I particularly enjoyed this portion:

"This card was found behind a picture hanging on the wall of a house here in Spokane. The owner of the house is in her 90's and she said that her brother must have put it there because when when they were young, she told me that she would always try to steal her brothers cards and cut them in half ( I can still feel the pain!!!!!) and so she figured that this one got away. Ty Cobb was his favorite player. I had to pay $500 for every single one of her painting in her house so that I could tear them up and look for hidden baseball cards. I found some Allen and Ginter 1887 cards with Comiskey on it which is pretty exciting."

I know that everyone in knew to hide tobacco cards behind paintings back in the day. Maybe we should give him a shovel, as there are sure to be several treasure chests full of T206 Wagners, CJ Jacksons, Goudey Lajoies, etc burried around the home as well.

LOL. That's great.

And you can date the card that way and its still gradable by PRO.

For old paintings on wood, like from the 1300s or 1400s, they do actually count the rings in the wood to determine the age. They will look into the history of the region, finding out when there was a big drought or fire that affects the rings of trees.

ust watching the science channel and they were carbon dating something to see if it was around 3 thousand years old. The results came back and the lab said that the most accurate they can get is plus/minus 50 years. I guess if the card came back with a date of 1961, it still might be from 1911.

I brought up the subject sale of this card to a professor friend who's
knowledgeable about the carbon dating process. He said you can't carbon
date a baseball card to 1911, you don't perform carbon dating on 20th century
baseball cards and the seller might as well include a LOA from a psychic.

You all failed to notice the fact that he "would grade it a 3 or 4"! I'm gonna rip all my PSA, SGC 1's and 2's out of their holders and mail them to this guy for re-grading. The whole description was HILARIOUS! Good thing no poor schmuck actually bought that on Ebay.
